I was top tier in the temporary seats for 2011 final.

When Cruden got injured and tehre was a delay, i nipped down to get some beers ... in my haste to get back, I tripped over entering the stand (beers were ok though), and as I stood up and continued walking in, the cop/security guard standing there, put his hand out to stop me. I was expecting all sorts of shit, and questions as they were being pretty hard on drunken behaviour. Started panicking about kikicked out etc. Instead he slowly turned his head, looked me dead in the eye and said

"Before you go back to your seat, you need to know that Stephen Donald is now on the field"

When we played Ireland in the US.

I'm surprised more haven't said this test. As mentioned the loss of our 3 best locks had me concerned.

I was never worried about the 2011 RWC final. Maybe I had a different view from the lower ASB stand. 🙂

Sure it was very tense but being at the game you could tell the French weren't going to score another "try from the end of the world" so the ABs just had to trust their D and be disciplined. A lot of my friends were very nervous watching on TV, including one who stopped watching at HT.

Likewise on 2011. Despite the tense nature and squeaky bum moments, I never lost confidence in the belief that McCaw was going to drive us to victory.

I would never call what I felt throughout that second half as confidence. I never concede until that fat lady sings, but I was also waiting every second for a dreaded penalty to go against us.

2011 game against Boks in SA with B team or at least unsettled line up. Would have been a finest moment if they'd pulled that off.

This one for me as well. We basically threw that game.

I've had a few where I've had a very bad feeling. The one I thought we'd lose for sure and in fact I thought we'd get thumped, was against England on Mitch's northern tour.

We did much better than I expected, but looking at that team, I'm still surprised we got close at Twickenham.

Yep. England were setting up a team to win the WC.

The visitors thought Keith Lowen, Ben Blair and Sam Broomhall were AB material

I was worried before the Ireland Test in Chicago. Jerome Kaino couldn't remember any of Irish players when questioned by TVNZ. Ireland had three weeks preparation to our one. 2016 was the year of upsets. No Brodie or Sam at Lock. Lots of photos of AB players out on the town celebrating the World Series win with Cub fans.

Different vibe from the ABs camp this week

In relation to this, does anyone remember a time where the ABs were picked to lose by the bookies? I'm guessing maybe back in 1998 we might not have been favourites for an away tri-nations game but even then I'm not so sure.

Cullen plays instead of Blair, and Merhts doesn't come on and immediately start turning the ball over, and we win that game. Even Broomhall was good that day.

Fucking Blair not being able to get to the corner, or then stay in when tackled...

We definitely put a scare through them that day. And look at that England team!

really? I would have thought it was a cracking day out? Yes we lost, but when the touring party was named, and then the team, surely expectation was out the window, and then to nearly burgle it?

losing always takes the shine off a big day like that, plus, I had an 0/2 record of watching us at Twickers!

More so as I was with my English/Irish boss so I needed to behave....once I got to the pubs after was great fun!

@mariner4life Yeah, there were no expectations on that team. Bitchell and Deans took away an AB team captained by a guy they both actively disliked and with a midfielder they at best begrudgingly used even though he was by far the best in the country.

Then there were a bunch of one or two test ABs and some young guys who were going to be decent long term ABs - in the future.

That over the shoulder tackle by Cohen would probably warrant a penalty try these days! 🙂

I was actually really positive after Twickenham in 02. All the guys to come back and yet we should have won in England. Happy days.

Then Wellington May 03 brought the reality check

Cully was an underrated defensive player due to most people not seeing past his attack.

We missed him at the back on a certain day at Twickenham.
