I dont have an issue with them having the Maori fella in a Korowai, but claiming him to be Santa is where they fucked up.
If you want to add the Kiwi side of things, have a jolly old fella with a beard, a red hat in reds shorts and jandals.
But you call it a Santa Parade, you have Santa, if you aint gonna have Santa (which is a specific character) then call it a Christmas Parade and dont say Santa will be there.
They were discussing this on Breakfast this morning, and as usual, Hayley doing her bit to make me dislike her even more...she was incredulous when the other female presenter said Santa has to be a man too!
Santa is Married to Mrs Clause and they arent gay.
Yes alot about Santa might be un-PC, but seriously, what Santa stands for is to give kids something magical to believe in (for a short period in thier lives) in a fucked up world right now, lets not take that off them so soon.

I really don't see how they thought that Santa would fly with the kids. Not the end of the world but pretty annoying.

@taniwharugby yeah well said. I see the news reporting it as a "mixed reaction" when all I've seen from the public has been overwhelmingly negative. There's a million ways to incorporate Maori culture into a Christmas parade, and it'd be cool if they did, but to actually change Santa just kills it for the kids there. I have really fond memories of Christmas and Santa growing up, it's all positive, I don't see why people want to ruin that.

@taniwharugby Yep. Santa is an old bloke that wears red and has a grey beard. That's who the fictional character is.
The tooth fairy isn't a bloke (cue gay, fairy, etc, jokes that would be inappropriate).
The Easter bunny is a rabbit.
Micky is a mouse.
Donald is a duck (or president).
Ludicrous, the whole thing.
