She comes across as an obnoxious cow which she could be playing up for the cameras considering the attention she got when this was originally screened but I think she might have a point about saddling kids with stupid names. I was in the mall in Lower Hutt a while back and saw ms mulletuggboots call out " keanu, axl , get your arses over here now" and thought to myself those poor little bastards never stood a chance. It's probably no coincidence the the two kids who get in the shit the most in my sons year at school are called Zaran and gaige. Sometimes these people take a normal name and change it to a bizarre spelling for no good reason other than maybe attention seeking , macsyna king springs to mind and my ex used to work with a chick who spelt her name siouxsie. Ffs siouxsie .
Things bogans like has an extensive list of names to avoid . -

The preponderance of these unique variations is either a function of every kid is special, or spelling phonetically due to borderline illiteracy. Perhaps both.
-

The main cretin in the roastbusters and the clown who got kicked out if school for growing his hair too long had twattish names. I would have loved to have been there when their parents were naming them and offered my own suggestions "how about alkaline ? That's got a nice ring to it." -

Prove of this is the terrible spelling of perfectly good names from other languages. Shavaughn and Shynade come to mind.

I'm sure this is already posted further back in the thread but for those that missed it

note the (tenuous) connection between the kids with odd names and the parents inability to work out it was a joke!!

There was a list of bogan names in the press somewhere the other day. Ah, here it is!

Yep. Like Anthony, but with a bogan accent. If they knew what phonics meant, they'd know how great they are at it.

I've got a traditional Irish name from a traditional Irish Mum - Siobhan. For most of my life, the only other person of that name I ever met was my own cousin, and forget about ever having one of those cool personalised pencil-cases or lunchboxes, etc. Now, all of a sudden other Siobhans seem to be cropping up, but they're all spelt in ridiculous fashion, like someone thought "I like the way it sounds, but spelling is HARD". I actually met a drunk woman at a conference event who saw my name-badge. "How do you pronounce THAT?" When I explained, she said, Oh my niece is called Che-vaughn" (she actually spelled it out for my horrified benefit, and yes, it included a dash). She then blundered on to ask why on earth my parents chose to spell it THAT way? Because that's how it's MEANT TO BE SPELT, you mouth-breather.

A lot of the guys at work have kids with names apparently lifted from the ghettos in the states , Shonray etc. might as well name him unemployable or bad credit risk . -

Has anyone watched that freakonomics doco segment on baby names? Pretty good watch. Basically, it's not the retarded name that gets you in trouble, it's the upbringing by parents stupid enough to call you that, which does the damage.

The combination of the two is surely the big killer.
