I posted this in another thread but is pretty applicable here as media are very determined to push the 'all men are rapists/murderers' angle. This is the end result of that theory when mixed with uni professors teaching the same. I've met women like this and it's terrifying. I can only assume she has never had professional help or that help is similarly ideologically possessed.

@jegga yeah murders and violent crime by strangers is extremely rare in NZ, so statistically speaking there is no wider trend to address based on this alone. Seems an odd choice of case to start talking about domestic violence.

I'd also add that there is a minority of men that commit violent crimes like this, which I'm sure we'd all love for them not to given other men often make up the majority of their victims. But an open letter demanding "all men do better" and suggesting things like behavioral change programmes is at best intellectually lazy, but more likely just pushing the man-hating "decontruct the patriarchy" theory so many feminists seem to love these days.

These "prominent women" don't appear to be able to think about things with any sort of depth or nuance. Or maybe they just don't want to because it doesn't fit their political agenda. It's exactly the same thing as telling all Muslims they need to do better because a minority of them committ acts of terror, without even bothering to look into why this might be happening.

Smearing everyone with the same brush is a fantastic way to advance politically as people love a simple answer, but it does nothing at all to address any complex real-world problems.

Unless you can tie this murder to domestic violence the story doesn’t really have the legs to push the all men are violent rapists who must to better agenda . This was just an awful act of random violence by a nutcase not domestic violence.

It’s also telling that while they are quite happy to speak up they aren’t touching the 10000 pound elephant in the room when it comes to domestic violence, which is a conversation we really should be having .

Ethnic Identity and Intimate Partner Violence in a New Zealand Birth Cohort - Ministry of Social Development

In the new year expect there to be studies, committees and working groups looking into this funded by the taxpayer with the usual suspects being involved competing for their share of the limelight bravely speaking up and challenging kiwi men to do better .

It's a bizzare situation alright. This sick 'new left'who are determined to push a narrative of 'straight white christian men' are the route of all evil and are happy to conflate any stats to prove their point but seem to have zero interest in addressing actual identified problems or even with making women safer. You get the same in Sweden, rape capital of Europe. This is used to push a an anti-male agenda while ignoring where the overwhelming number of these rapes are occurring from. The fear is of course racism..but surely by not at least addressing issues this will only ultimately create even worse racism in the long term.

Somewhere a man woke up this morning and read the herald and thought to himself “ shit Teresa Gatting and Dame Sylvia Cartwright have a point, I do need to better so I’ll start by not committing that rape and murder I was planning for this afternoon “.

@taniwharugby Ask no questions about ferners who no longer post, and you'll be told no lies.

I do hate that Grace's killing has now been locked into a discussion about domestic violence. Completely separate issues. What about the poor woman who was killed by her partner on the same day? (In Flatbush or something?)

I want to see the stats of who is committing these revolting crimes. Ages. Ethnicity. Socio-economic background. So resources etc can be targeted. It pissed me off when Cunliffe apologised on behalf of all men, and saying 'men need to do better' is not helpful. All the guys I know have managed to make it through without raping or murdering a woman. So let's not waste time spreading the message thin.

Peter Williams is the first journalist to break ranks and point out how awful Arderns behaviour has been .

That’s why he’ll be remembered as a legend and Kirsty Johnson will probably always be nothing but the an example of the worst millennial stereotypes.

I'd also add this case has highlighted how bad mainstream media is today.

Not just our media who have already been warned by the NZ Law society that they are compromising the case, but also the UK media whose defense of publishing the name of the guy is "well NZ law doesn't apply in the UK". Like no fucking shit Sherlock, we were trying to appeal to your morals not claiming our law applies to the rest of the bloody world.

None of these people seem to give the slightest bit of a shit about the trial and whether or not this family will actually get justice.

And some proper stats about prevalence, police reports, convictions, percentage of popn offending, gender trends ( some say women domestically assaulting men as much as 40% of all incidents), ages of offenders etc

Paint a clear picture of specifically (as possible) who these people are, then we can work on a proper reduction strategy.

No chance of the shrill brigade backing up their accusation with data or facts though.

Fuck it's such a waste of time and energy - mindlessly demanding everyone must change, it's fucking tiring

What are basic facts of the case? I feel stupid for asking, but I still don’t know how she was killed. Has this been made public yet?

We don't know. We do know that her body was found in tact.

She was last seen entering a hotel with the man who has been charged with her murder. It was caught on CCTV. The hotel appears to be where tge accused lives/d.

Her body was found a few metres off the road in the Waitakeres.

There is interest in a red Toyota Corolla hire car that was later found in Taupo.

    That's about it.

@booboo MSM would have you believe he raped her, beat her and murdered her (order yet to be established) all because she was a a female and he was just your everyday typical bloke.

Man I feel bad about being a man, I might go hand myself to the police for all the rapes I could commit

@salacious-crumb I believe it was due to CCTV footage of them together at the Hotel and subsequent interviews with him revealed he was involved in her death.

They also located a shovel believed to be related to the enquiry.

The rental car located in Taupo was not driven there by the man in question. It was only rented for 24h before being returned and rented by another party.

    @Salacious-Crumb

    From The Mirror.

November 20: Grace Millane arrives in New Zealand from Peru. She had been in nearly daily contact with her family.

November 30: Ms Millane posts her last tweet saying 'I think travelling has changed me I just brought some blue jeans.'

December 1: Ms Millane is seen on CCTV leaving a hotel in Auckland at 7.15pm. ... She is seen at the CityLife Hotel, in Auckland, with a 'male companion' at 9.40pm.

December 2: The 22-year-old's birthday. Her family do not hear anything from her, which is unusual behaviour. Just before noon, a red Toyota Corolla is hired from a central Auckland rental firm.

December: 3: The Toyota Corolla is returned, and eventually rented out again to persons unrelated to the investigation

December 5: Her worried family file a missing persons report and pictured of Ms Millane are shared extensively online.

December 7: Police said they had received dozens of calls to a hotline and more than 25 staff were working on the case, trawling through hours of CCTV footage to trace her movements. After arriving in Auckland her father, David Millane, makes an emotional plea for help finding his daughter. Police reveal they have spoken to the male companion and he is a person of interest. The man was not taken into custody and police said there was no evidence of foul play.

December 8: A 26-year-old man is taken into custody at a central Auckland address by police. The red Toyota is located in the town of Taupo

December 9: Police announce they are searching an area on Scenic Drive, near the Waitakere Reservoir. Shortly after 4pm local time (3am GMT), police find a body believed to be Ms Millane in vegetation around ten yards from the road. A 26-year-old man is charged with her murder.

December 10: The accused, 26, appears in court in Auckland. He does not enter a plea.

Have made a couple of edits to remove names.

WRT the Corolla, I got the impression from reports it had been dumped at Taupo. Appears it was located there with the next hirers, as no doubt the cops wanted to forensically examine it. Slight red herring.
