Lucy - Scarlett Johansson, Morgan Freeman

Started off really well, and thought it was great, then the last 30 mins or it wandered well down the path into some kinda odd lawn mower man virtual reality mind fuck!
-

you are like my 6 year old daughter - are there girls in it? although for entirely different reasons

What a delightful little movie! Opening shots of the freeway, combined with the Philip Glass score, were brilliant.

Blu-ray presentation was OK, considering the likely quality of the film stock. Looked 16mm for a lot of the time.
-

is that the one with the bees?

The International - Clive Owen, Naomi Watts. Espionage thriller. 6/10.

I quite liked this all the way through (especially a most excellent shootout at the Guggenheim) but then it started coming undone, and committed the unforgivable sin of stopping rather than ending.

I like a resolution, even if it's a 'for now' rather than 'forever'. The hero got no payoff for all his effort, the villain company mosied on.

Oh yeah, and the way the heroine exited the storyline was stupid too, after all her efforts, including being run over.
-

Yup. And Tony Todd's deep, deep voice.

Virginia Masden was pretty fine back in the day!

42: The biopic about Jackie Robinson. Harrison Ford plays an old curmudgeon bloody well - but then again he is an old curmudgeon. Pretty stock standard biopic TBH, watchable without being great, but gave me a good starting point to do some reading about Robinson and Ford's character.
-
I saw a bit of it Nepia and meant to watch the rest but never got around to it.

With bonus Jennifer Connolly too.
-

I really enjoyed Interstellar as well and didn't have any issues with the sound quality.

As Kirwan said like an updated 2001 without the (same level of portentousness).

Enjoyed you didn't get a complete back story instead the little details showed how truly fucked they were.

Tars and Case also piss all over HAL. Gotta get me one of them for Xmas.

Didn't drag even though its 250 mins and gets a bit mystical at times - expected given the subject matter I guess.
-

Saving Mr Banks. LOVED this. Great cast, great story. One tiny negative: remembering how excrutiatingly bad Dick Van Dyke's English accent was in Mary Poppins.

Prisoners. Good Jackman/Gyllenhaal thriller let down by last 15 minutes with some randomness and characters flicked away with no reason/resolution. 'Oh no, we never knew him'. And HATED the final scene. Seriously? After all the father went through/did to save his daughter, we don't get the emotional payoff of the two reuniting? PAH.
-

Been chilling by watching a lot of Sky movies this week.

This is the End - Not the biggest Seth Rogan or James Franco fan but this comedy about a bunch of obnoxious Hollywood actors trying to survive the rapture was pretty funny, especially Jonah Hill's Rosemary's Baby moment.

Captain Phillips - Just when I thought Tom Hanks had faded away he comes back in this film. Not a bad performance by him or the pirate leader. Based on the true story of a ship captain being captured by some useless Somali pirates. We all know how it ends.

Evil Dead remake - I'm a huge Evil Dead fan - Army of Darkness is my favourite movie of all time. This remake has the same gruesome scenes and a few change ups from the original but the ending had me confused.
The ending with the main female character fighting a possessed version of herself, after being freed from possession, doesn't make much sense in the ED universe.... unless it grew out of her shoulder....
Masters of the Universe - Terrible acting, terrible make up, terrible special effects, somewhat homo-erotic, extremely cheesy, terrible plot. But when Drago yells "I HAVE THE PAUA!" you're just like "fuck yeah". And the Teela chick is pretty fine for 80s standards too.
-
