Star Trek Discovery renewed for a new season, and hopefully more importantly a new co-showrunner. Hopefully that means a course correction.

Yeah, this is the 4th show-runner team now? Hopefully they go in a new direction. Especially with how Kurtzman has talked about how he wants to be more high-level management for several Trek shows.

Heard something interesting today. Apparently in Fuller's original treatment, the mushroom stuff was going to be about the use of advanced fungal colonies to terraform planets. Nothing to do with ghosts, the afterlife etc ...

@taniwharugby Apart from a couple of flat episodes, The Orville has been pretty good this year. They are better at telling one major story per episode, and creating relatable characters.

@Tim yeah a few in S1 were flat too, thought the gender re-assignment ep was silly.

Good series though given I am not a Trek fan!

Season 2 has a higher "good ep" hitrate so far, IMO. I think that any sci-fi show that does old Trek style "idea of the week" stories is going to be a bit hit or miss. The "misses" are a lot better with a good cast of characters though.

BTW @Kirwan, you might be interested in this:

It's Michael Piller's short book about how his production of Star Trek: Insurrection went wrong, despite best intentions from all involved. Pretty good outline of how movies are made (from the writing and planning, rather than filming, point of view).

Yep, they wrapped it up well. Fucking great space battle! Kept the kids enthralled.

@Kirwan One of the best battles since DS9. Really, really fun. A hint of Star Wars there?

@Tim yeah, felt like return of the Jedi and some of the prequels. Real stakes with lots of good guys buying it.

Going to put my guess in for the Red Angel for STD. I think it’s the ship AI from discovery in the future.

Lots of the short cuts features have paid off in the main series.

EXCLUSIVE: STAR TREK: PICARD Series Update With Character Breakdowns

Information on the Picard Series is still coming out slowly. But these character breakdowns give us the clearest picture yet of what to expect.

Seems to be a "team of rogues and misfits".

How can you fuck up the Talosians? They look terrible, the originals were played by woman with male voices, and looked creepy as fuck.

    These generic aliens look awful.

Not sure what to think about this. Not sure I care too much seeing Picard in a Firefly like knock off.
