Movie review thread...

Captain Marvel
This is a great addition to the MCU and I'd happily go see it again. Well structured, well paced, and bringing through that humour that had been a feature since Ragnarok
I have no idea what the comics are like, so can't comment on any alterations to plot lines. I'm not here for that.
I thought the cast was great, the action scenes superb, and the 90s soundtrack absolutely killer. Skrull accent not what I was expecting
My kids fuckin loved it, particularly Miss TA who has been lucky enough to be born at a time where movies like Wonder Woman and Captain Marvel have given us really strong female characters.

I docked it a point for that alone, almost ruined the movie for me.
At least it still had all the vowels

@antipodean is that the Ben Affleck one? If so, I added it to my watch list last night....
Yes it is. The acting is fine. It has a good cast. But the development of the story in the second half is laughable.
I didn't think it was 'ludicrously bad' but agree the story in that second half was terrible ... in fact they could have kept the same outline and just written it better and made a much better 'chase' style movie.
One of it's big issues is that the characters all seemed to swap as the movie moved on, one minute one of them was the thoughtful calm one and then the next he was the lunatic.
I'd like to see that cast with better direction - in fact Affleck could have directed it better - even though Chandor has directed decent stuff in the past.
@Crucial No nudity but the chick in it was hot.

Sigourney Weaver, Carrie Fischer, Mila Jovovich, Carrie-Anne Moss and Uma Thurman (among others) are wondering where you've been the past 30 odd years.

Yeah what the actual fuck @NTA ?
Further to those every single example had multiple strong female leads in their movies....
Star Wars: Rey, Jyn Erso, Padme etc
Aliens: Newt ( little girl ) Lesbo latina marine, main chick from Prometheus, main chick from the latest Alien movie etc
Kill Bill: Lucy Lus character, Darly Hannahs character, the black chick with the knife etc
Resident Evil: Rain, Jill Valentine, other chick played by Ali whatshername......
When it comes to non Star Wars movies I'm shit with names clearly, but I've made my point.

It's just a bullshit narrative which I'm surprised Nick has swallowed. There are heaps more. You had the big budget Catwoman and Elektra films and then multiple females in the X-Men world. There was a Super Girl film in the 80s and even Bat Girl later became a regular character in the old Adam West series. I remember as a kid that HeMan spin off Sheira and if you want to go back even further you have Pippi Longstocking who could beat the shit out of any boy (or man for that matter).
Also forgot Lara Croft! But yeah other than that....

Which were shit, in case you hadn't noticed.
Along with a lot of the recent Star Wars movies which barely had female leads - mostly females had strong roles alongside strong male leads, instead of female leads with make sidekicks.
By all means let YOUR 11yo daughter watch Aliens. Mine would not.

@MN5 my kids will just be pissed off with the special effects on any movie made before 2010. I tried to get them into The Princess Bride and it lasted 15 minutes
I'm calling child services. You've failed as a dad.
