    Watched Tamatea v Clive.

    Clive won 50-36.

Lincoln McClutchie was classy, I thought, in a beaten team.

Scored two tries, both times cutting inside his marker in the Clive 22, kicked well (out of hand and for posts) and passed well, two or three times dummying and then offloading to put the man outside him into gaps. Also bossed the team well with a lot of talk.

Last year's Hastings BHS first XV captain Liam Udy-Johns played well at flanker for Clive.

      Watched NOBM v HRS

36-31 to NOB. HRS out to an early 10-nil need, NOB came back to be 22-10 up, with the score 22-17 at half time.

HRS got 2 intercept tries in the game with NOB throwing it wide from inside their 22 at almost every occasion.

The back 3 for NOB looked good, with Liam Edwards at fullback particularly good. Ricky Hayes was very solid at 7 for NOB too.

@Number-10 Good to hear that about McClutchie! I still find it a bit frustrating that the Canes haven't given him the same opportunities as Flanders, Kereru-Symes, and Toala. McClutchie is showing so much promise; they should ditch JGB for next year and sign McC, but then a development contract for this season would have made so much sense.

I can't wait to see our young Magpies in action for NZU20s next month, to see how much they've progressed since last season. You'd expect all four players to get selected. Tavita-Metcalfe may miss out; last year's injury may have huge consequences for him. He simply hasn't had enough game time since his injury. And, Fakatava; even if he was able to participate, he might not have been released by the Landers anyway, because of Aaron Smith's injury.

By the way, did Karl Lowe play for Clive? Is he still playing well, or is age showing?

Yep, no sign of Karl Lowe. He was helping out the Hastings BHS first XV last year. Maybe he's doing the same again this year?

No sign of Kianu Kereru-Symes for Tamatea, either.

That Clive team list of 22 contains only five players that played in last year's Maddison Trophy final - Rana Huata, Lucas Goodin, Bronson Hokianga, Eti Collins, Jesse Tuhua.

@Number-10 Kereru-Symes played for Hurricanes Hunters (Dev) on Friday, so that explains why he wasn't playing club rugby.

Karl Lowe is on the Clive team list that was published earlier (see a previous post), just like one of Jonah's other brothers, Jacob. But indeed, maybe he's only available when Hastings Boys isn't playing?

Just a heads up,former Havelock North coach Joseph Snee who won a couple of titles down your way and has been up in Auckland for the last several years is returning back to the Bay .
Snee won a title with Grammar Tech Up here in Auckland and has been involved with the Auckland Dev squad for the last few seasons..it will be interesting to see where he ends up in the Bay..?.
Good to have a quality coach returning to the Bay.

                    From that article:

Magpies prop Pouri Rakete-Stones was again a powerful figure in the Pirate pack.

In his first season out of secondary schools rugby tighthead prop Patrick Teddy was NOBM's player-of-the-match. ... Centre Saia Paese was again classy in the hosts backline.

"We had a few guys playing out of position and didn't have the same pace as NOBM out wide as Mason [Magpies winger Emerson] was playing sevens in Japan," Rosenberg added.

Magpies hooker Kianu Kereru-Symes made his debut for MAC as a loosie ...

Clive lead 43-10 and with the Storm Week in mind, all 10 teams will play three games within eight days this week, made numerous changes and leaked 26 points during the final 15 minutes. Three members of last year's Hastings Boys' High School 1st XV, tighthead prop Zac Southwick, lock Donovan Mataira and flanker Liam Udy-Johns provided plenty of grunt to the winning engine room.

Magpies pivot Lincoln McClutchie was classy for Tamatea and finished with 21 points from two tries, four conversions and a penalty. His older brother, Keil McClutchie, provided quality impact off the pine at second five-eight ...

Magpies prop and 2017 world champion Baby Black Tim Farrell had 20 minutes off the pine in his first outing in 18 months after an injury and scored a try for Altherm Window Systems Napier Technical.

Tonight went and watched Hastings RS v Tech OB, Hastings RS won 36-10.

Tech were scoreless in the second half, and hardly ever got out of their half.

I didn't think the lights were good enough at Elwood Park.

Jason Long played for Hastings RS but Mason Emerson didn't.

Mark Braidwood and Trent Boswell-Wakefield both came on in the second half for Tech OB, but Tim Farrell did not play - apparently Tech just want to ease him back in.

Apparently Clive defaulted to Havelock Nth, Clive didn't have enough front rowers.

Have Clive managed to find any front rowers yet or will this be another default loss by them? Also whats the story behind the Bridge Pa team in Div 3, perhaps some of the League guys fronting up for rugby until their season starts later?

@Higgins I assumed Clive Prems not having frontrowers for Wednesday's game had to do with the fact that it was a mid-week game. I may be wrong.

I don't know about Bridge Pa. I think they also had their first ever 7s team end of last yea, and their own 7s tournament earlier this year. I remember reading an article in which it was mentioned, but I can't find it anymore. Saw this on their Facebook page:
