    <p>I was aghast twice watching this. Once, because it's so appalling and shocking, and the 2nd time because I'd never heard of the guy.</p>
    <p> </p>
    <p>

    </p>
    <p> </p>
    <p>Also, because all I could think about while watching the doc was this classic:</p>
    <p> </p>
    <p>
    </p>
    <p> </p>
    <p>.</p>

    <p>Looks like Judgment day is closer then we thought.</p>
    <p> </p>
    <div><a data-ipb='nomediaparse' href='http://www.3news.co.nz/world/scientists-urged-to-halt-killer-robot-research-2015052722#axzz3bT8Aodrn'>Scientists urged to halt killer robot research</a></div>
    <div> </div>
    <div>
    <blockquote class="ipsBlockquote">
    <p> </p>
    <p>Drones have made the skies a safer place from which to wage war, but with military researchers getting ever closer to developing machines that can fight on the ground, artificial intelligence experts are getting nervous.</p>
    <div> </div>
    <div>Stuart Russell, computer-science professor at the University of California, says it's only a matter of years before machines capable of deciding for themselves who should live and die are ready to fight.</div>
    <div> </div>
    <div>But lethal autonomous weapons systems [LAWS], as the United Nations has dubbed them, are not covered by any existing international laws.</div>
    <div> </div>
    <div>"The stakes are high: LAWS have been described as the third revolution in warfare, after gunpowder and nuclear arms," Dr Russell writes in today's issue of scientific journal Nature.</div>
    <div> </div>
    <div>He says it's time for scientists to take a stand against the development of such weapons, which "will leave humans utterly defenceless".</div>
    <div> </div>
    <div>"Doing nothing is a vote in favour of continued development and deployment."</div>
    <div> </div>
    <div>The only thing holding autonomous fighting machines back will be the laws of physics themselves," argues Dr Russell. Smaller, more agile machines are harder to target, but won't be able to carry heavy payloads, for example.</div>
    <div> </div>
    <div>"The AI [artificial intelligence] and robotics science communities, represented by their professional societies, are obliged to take a position, just as physicists have done on the use of nuclear weapons, chemists on the use of chemical agents and biologists on the use of disease agents in warfare."</div>
    <div> </div>
    <div>He points to the US, UK and Israel as being the leading developers of LAWS technology.</div>
    <div> </div>
    <div>Supporters claim it could potentially minimise civilian casualties by eliminating human error and bias, but opponents say it increases the likelihood of war breaking out by making it easier to wage without risk – not to mention the "catastrophic" damage a rogue or terrorist group could cause, according to Dr Russell.</div>
    <div> </div>
    <div>Germany has pushed for an outright ban, saying it "will not accept that the decision over life and death is taken solely by an autonomous system", while Japan has "no plan to develop robots with humans out of the loop, which may be capable of committing murder".</div>

    <p>This is in no way awesome - its sickening and a sign of where parts of US law enforcement are on the moral slide, currently:</p>

    <p><a data-ipb='nomediaparse' href='http://www.news.com.au/world/outrage-over-picture-depicting-chicago-police-posing-with-black-suspect/story-fndir2ev-1227374649469'>http://www.news.com.au/world/outrage-over-picture-depicting-chicago-police-posing-with-black-suspect/story-fndir2ev-1227374649469</a></p>
    <p> </p>
    <p>That bit in bold is what gets me - scumbag fucking lawyers trying to protect their prick clients through some bullshit "concern" for the victim. fluffybunnies.</p>
    <p> </p>
    <p> </p>
    <p></p><p></p><blockquote class="ipsBlockquote">IT’S the photo Chicago police didn’t want you to see.
    <p> </p>
    <p>Two caucasian cops, armed with rifles, pose proudly with their “prized” catch; an African-American man on his belly, deer antlers attached to his head, with what appears to be blood smeared on his face and an expression too shocking for words.</p>
    <p> </p>
    <p>Officer Timothy McDermott holds up the man’s head, while officer Jerome Finnigan smiles and points to his catch, antler in hand.</p>
    <p> </p>
    <p>The Chicago Police Department successfully kept the polaroid photo suppressed for more than a decade, but no longer, after a judge released the startling image for the world to bear witness.</p>
    <p> </p>
    <p>In March, <strong>lawyers for Chicago Police argued that the polaroid should be kept hidden in order to protect the privacy of the victim</strong>, but Judge Thomas Allen ruled against it, leading the <a data-ipb='nomediaparse' href='http://chicago.suntimes.com/crime/7/71/587596/judge-wont-seal-photo-cpd-cops-posing-african-american-man-antlers'>Chicago Sun-Times</a> to obtain a copy through court files.</p>
