it might be horribly articulated - or maybe i'm getting the intent wrong - but jag's point re reece doesn't seem so far off the mark to me.
reece was discharged without conviction. that means not convicted of a crime. we have a court system for a reason.
sure that's a big fucking question mark hanging over his character, but it is only a question mark as far as i'm concerned - unless you have first-hand knowledge of what happened. too many on here seem willing to pass a judgement that a court was not prepared to pass, despite having less information available to them than the court did.

"got off because he's a rugby player" is shit that gets spouted a lot. i'm not prepared to believe that about our court system unless i see some actual proper evidence of it. actual stats, not people going reece +sivivatu=proof.

as to the polly/dr comparison - if you don't see reece as a question mark, then you're seeing him as a wife-beater which is not okay in any way ever - so there are no distinctions. how seriously you take a question mark over someone's character can depend a bit on their role in society, but in this case it's misguided - doesn't really apply to DV (as opposed to e.g. someone a bit dodgy/corrupt being a cop or mowing lawns). i personally think that presenting this situation to a kid as 'reece is a wife-beater, he got off because he's good at rugby, the crusaders and all blacks don't mind' is far more harmful than just going with what the court decided.

We can put a line under this now.

Let's try and keep this about the 2019 Championship and talk about the pros and cons of thinking about someone as a something in Off-Topic

@nzzp yeah unfortunately we have lost many of our 'international' posters over the years, for a variety of reasons

i, for one, blame the cantabs.

That why I'm expecting every Kiwi rugby fan on this forum who doesn't support Canterbury to be supporting the Jaguares tomorrow night

no no, that's not how it works. Internally we bicker and fight, but when some foreign invader comes in, we circle the wagons. We are all honorary Cantabs this week. I'v even blacked out a couple of my teeth in support

    Aww thats so nice.

I'd support the Jags over every other Kiwi team 🙂 hate them all

Except for maybe the Blues, because I almost feel sorry for those losers

Just saw that big Karl is getting a run for Takapuna tomorrow in the quarter final vs Massey.

Also of interest is the man named at number 6.....the one and only Adam Thomson

Heard through the grapevine that Karl had been suffering from meningitis, good that he's over that

That would go a long way to explaining why he seemed so unfit.

So as most of the selected Crusaders won't be going to Argentina, will they put Dane between two Auckland props? A second row of Pat and Retallick? Cane, Savea and Frizell/ Fifita. Smith, Beaudy, Ioane, Laumape, ALB, Smith and Jordie

Or will some of the Crusaders backs be asked to travel?

@antipodean Hansen seemed to suggest in the media that some Crusaders players may be on the plane to Argentina.

Some of them haven't had that much game time recently, so it wouldn't surprise me. Particularly, Franks and Taylor. Don't know about backs. Bridge? Ennor?

Yeah he was pretty farked and out of action for a good few weeks. We saw him at A&E about 4 weeks ago and he looked toast

Franks doesn't need to travel as already 3 other THs in the squad, 4 if you also count Moli.

More likely to be some of the backs like Bridge. Goodhue too with SBW and Crotty out.

@Bovidae I agree with your point that the frontrowers might not be needed but I think minutes played will also be a major factor to be taken into consideration. That's why maybe Bridge could be on the plane, but Goodhue, I doubt it.

this place has been a dead zone so far this year

Weird perception. Traffic is going nuts, the busiest it's been for years.

Compared to the same period last year we have 50% more unique IPs. Posting is well up too

Last year there was a very clear peak around the England Test. We've reached that level the last four weeks in a row

    Interesting. Didn't feel that way

@Stargazer So Jordie the backup midfielder? Possibly Ennor but I think they see him as a wing/centre not the other way around (at this stage).

Rieko could also be moved into centre if required with winger cover on the bench.

@Bovidae Laumape and ALB to start, and maybe Ennor on the bench. ALB can move in a place, if needed. Jordie and Rieko can provide cover, if necessary.

I would have been if it wasn't for you - you're doing the opposite of your intent (for one person at least). :face_with_stuck-out_tongue_closed_eyes:

So, aside from the undroppable SBW, who's the luckiest fecker in the Squad, do you think?

How about who's the most unluggy poor bugger that missed out?

    71bef9a4-2ddc-4218-bfda-ed58284318be-image.png

For me the luckiest forward is actually Matt Todd. He's a sader, so can't play the first game, and won't be going to Japan (outside of injuries to Ardie or Cane) - he's just another of the bloated number of loose forwards. We know he can cut it, and is first on the plane if injuries strike. I guess he's there cos Ardie has put in the time over SR, and doesn't need much more over RC. Backs it's Jordie, who has the ability to feck oop so badly as to lose us the cup - obviously an SBW who's highlights since RWC15 is a little good defence along with being injured often, a waste of a spot in the 7s team, and losing us the Lions tour is majorly lucky that the Wise Men believe his experience is so useful.

Unluggy would be Havili, better than Jordie but I guess isn't that 3rd 10 covering one RWC pool game for our 2 normal tens

England were leading 15-0 til he went off and Crotty replaced him. Of course this could be coincidence.

Not specifically standing up for SBW but how exactly did he contribute to the 15 point deficit?

From my recollection (and I did a Mr Mike using the stop/go function on Foxtel) was he made one mistake. And that was still a fucking good option, in that the grubber didn't quite bounce the right way.

Am not an SBW fan or apologist but do see how he has to perform to perfection to allay some people's expectations.

From what I recall, it wasn't so much anything SBW did wrong as the fact that the AB backline's decision making improved massively after Crotty came on.

Very serious disease and the virulent form fatal if not diagnosed promptly.
