@antipodean if I have a criticism, BMWs colour range is quite poor. Black, white, a couple of greys and a couple of blues, one of which is weird. You can’t actually buy that silver colour in the UK now. Very few of the colours do much for the lines of the car to be honest.

My brother in law has an M4 and wow, that thing can seriously move. It's also reasonably comfortable. It was funny, he walked into a local BMW dealership wanting to look at a used but late model M3 and walked out with a brand new M4 in that original yellow/orange colour.

However, looking at that video, the MB AMG GT(?) didn't use it's launch control and got off the line quite a bit slower than the M5.

Going through my own midlife crisis, when we had problems with our previous car late last year, the wife let me chose what I wanted this time and gave me a decent budget so ended up with a 2017 Mercedes Benz GLA 45 AMG with just under 13,000 kms on the odometer. Got it just at the budget so the wife was happy about that.

    alt text

And fark me, yes it's a bit wanky but I love this car. It is one of those strange crossovers or SAV's (great term, hadn't heard that before) and you kind of ask yourself is it a hatch or a small SUV because it isn't that big but damn it can move. It sits in the same family as the AMG A 45 and CLA 45 but isn't as uncomfortable as the A 45 hatchback or as strange looking as the CLA 45.

Performance wise, 280kW of power and 475Nm of torque and can do 0-100km/h in 4.4 seconds.

Ahhh, now where did I put that box of tissues, need to clean up this mess.

Yeah, it's true. Since Bangle left they have designed their larger cars to look a lot more understated, and the colour schemes go with that. I'm ok with that, as I think it gives them a bit more of a premium look. We have a dark grey X5 with black wheels and I think it looks awesome.

@RoninWC that is a serious piece of kit, well purchased! I'm still not a fan of MB myself, but that is a mean looking cross over!

I looked at an M3 earlier this year - I've never owned one and it's always been something which I think has been missing. However, the current generation is at the end of the line and I just didn't feel like it felt it was worth the cost. The interior, design, switchgear felt quite old and moving across to the X5 felt like a real step up. On the road though, wow. The overtaking acceleration was insane. Going along at about 65 mph, and pull out to pass, though may have gone up to 80mph and was nudging 100! It would be the end of my license.

If this thread doesn't become the most Ignored thread on TSF, I'll be surprised.

Greece last week. Car transfer was an advert for MB. 5-6 year old e-class. Only a little bit tired, but still a beautiful car to travel in .... 825,000 km on the clock!

    New C8 vette available.

60k usd, mid engine 6.2 V8, 495 hp, 3 secs to 100, rhd available Looks absolutely stunning too. I’m a massive vette fan, much more of jeans / t shirt than an Italian suit.

Official UK importer 10 min drive from me, might go and have a chat ...

Been watching the release of the new Corvette c8

Never been a huge Corvette fan boy, but this car looks great, might be the first time I get a Chevy, but it won't hit show room floors till next year.
Not crazy horsepower, but sill a 0-60mph under 3 seconds is great for the money.

I worked as a BMW salesman for a few years, and unless you get an M car with individual paint, I agree the colors are a bit uninspiring.

Funny, we posted that the same time

Beautiful cars those - my neighbour had one on loan whilst his RR Sport was being serviced. He called it the reverse tardis.

Haha. That is what I have called my RS4 for years. Looks big enough, but fits f' all in it and the back seats aren't for taller people. I usually frighten any passengers out of it anyway so works for me.

@Snowy You should try my S5 It's not so much a back seat as a convenient shelf for things like water bottles and other shit. Boot is actually reasonable - but the boot opening makes it impracticable .

All of which are actually positives. I don't want to share the car and there's plenty of room for me.

It's just a fucking nice car - who gives a shit about other people. It's also a V8 but I was going to hell anyway

I'll see you there (Israel has ordained it) and I also have the V8 version.

I concur with all of your other comments.

it is a beautiful car. Not going to lie, it's very nice driving something of this quality. It's super comfortable. It has electronic and automatic everything. It's fucking powerful. And it handles like a dream. It also looks amazing.

    But

In all reality it's a really nice station wagon. The drivers seat feels like a cockpit, which is cool, but hardly feels spacious. And while it's as i said, really nice to drive, it's hardly exciting. And if i was ever to spend this kind of money on a car (and shit, i would need my head read surely) i would buy something that fires up the blood a bit.

However the wife is already doing the numbers. She's mental.

Sometimes smartarse comments are just gifted to you. I will restrain myself.

Agree with your comments - that amount of cash has to really get you excited. We looked at them given that I am basically a farmer now and need a 4wd due to shitty roads / driveway, but the Quattro is so good, and copes so well that I just kept it.

Really shitty roads are the one drawback for me. Another few mm clearance at the front would make all the difference - I'm the car worth its arse sticking out when I park coz I can't clear a curb.

I did manage to take it up to Port Jackson in the summer but some of the creek crossings were a bit close your eyes and hope.
