I bet that was a big day for them in that article Winger linked, someone actually knew they existed and asked for their opinion.
-

that also looks like they have a flag, in thier flag, the symbolism is brilliant!

A flag within a flag. That's deep.
-

Reading Wingers article it looks like the flag geeks are a bit gutted they weren't asked and instead someone who designed sneakers for Nike was. Considering how shit their flag is and how competitive the sports shoe industry is I'd take sneaker boys advice over the flag beardos any day if the week .

I don't understand the problem with not "consulting the advice" (sic) of vexillologists. Because you know how you become a vexillologist? You simply say you are. Some of them may be historians, and experts in that field, or designers and expert at design, or even young guys with Asperger's who like to categorise and remember things. But expert vexillologist? Nah, that's not really a thing.

Once again thats awful , it would appear the flag geeks are to flag design as Tiger Woods is to fidelity.

I'd still like to know why designing Nike sneakers is something to be sneered at, sneakers are an overpriced me too product and basically the only thing that separates them is the way they look. I'd wager whoever it is you are putting down has a better idea for design than the vexillologists.
-

About five years ago you could have replaced flag with Alby Mathewson in his posts and not noticed much difference. -

Extremely vexing for any armchair vexillologist however, their stars look more like flying saucers and the ball-stitching is all wrong.

Coming together... but needs more symbology to beef it up....

I think we have a winner. Iconic New Zealand symbology balanced in all four corners -- Crux, Fern, Kiwi, Pavolva -- a rugby ball central -- I doubt you'd find anything more perfectly representative.
-

No, I'm not taking the piss. You posted something that suggested that the lack of vexillologists on the panel was in some way a problem. But vexillologists are by definition self-appointed. They are people who like flags.

Liking something is no qualification for dictating if or how others may engage with, enjoy or participate in it. And the fact a vexillologist may take the business of flags seriously doesn't make their subjective opinion more valuable than, say, Jegga's subjective opinion. Despite their obvious and stated interest in the subject they are no more "right" in their opinions than BJ Lochore is.

Your demand for their inclusion is as preposterous as suggesting that musicians should have a group of music critics vet their songs prior to release, because otherwise the songs will be crap.

We get it, you don't like the options. But that's just your opinion. There's fact, then there's opinion. Know the difference.

BTW, the "designed washing machines" thing is horseshit, and you should know that. First, t's the kind of detail that gets included in a story because someone with a grudge (maybe a vexillologist group) fed it to the "journalist" and I'm unsurprised it's in a piece in the Herald, but I'm surprised you can't recognise a beat-up when you see it. Second, nobody gives a shit.
