too brutal? Given some of what we have seen already, plus other TV shows, it must be special...

So I need a new series to tie me over a saving-for-a-deposit-on-a-house period in my life.

But I am a TV snob and don't generally have much patience for too much cheese

To give an idea of what I like from the top of my head these are my top 10 dramas
1. Band of Brothers
2. The Wire
3. Sopranos
4. Breaking Bad
5. Narcos
6. The walking dead
7. Game of thrones
8. Outrageous Fortune
9. Vikings
10. Boardwalk Empire

Any suggestions?

I've tried and given up on both Mad Men ( too girlie) and SOA (too cheesy)

Hadn't heard of that one but looking at the wiki entry it seems to tick all the right boxes. Cheers! will give it a shot.

I've never seen it mentioned here but Foyles war isn't a bad show at all I reckon.

I was about to suggest some shows but read this and have now assigned you to the loon bin with anti vaccers and red peak pushers.

But, I guess, Justified might be manly enough for you and I second all three suggestions so far.

Yeah, watched the first two episodes. Slow start so far. Might be better to binge watch it.

Cheers guys,

Will check out Fargo and Terriers.

Sorry Nepia, maybe girlie wasn't the right word exactly, tried watching it with my Mrs at the time who loved it but I just couldn't identify with it..unlike zombies, dragons and drug dealers in baltimore... Will check out Justified. Weirdly enough I did like the first season of Desperate housewives so I probably shouldn't be calling anyone girlie.

Seen Generation Kill, Deadwood and True Detective and if I had remembered them they all probably would have featured in my top 10.

I really want to like Fear the walking dead, it just seems to be lacking something, the quality difference between the final of that and the first episode of the new Walking dead series was pretty stark, will still be tuning into it, hopefully I'll start liking the characters a bit more and maybe it will catch up

I second The Americans. Fantastic show that gets better as it goes.

Not sure if it fits your bill Rembrant, have you tried Orphan Black? Has some patchy periods and the story gets a bit convoluted after a while, but it is still a good watch.

If you don't like cheese then I guess Banshee is out of the question, but is you can watch it for the pulp fiction that it is, then it is hugely entertaining.

Walking Dead has been excellent so far after a disappointing 5th season. Fear the Walking Dead is interesting, but every single character apart from the NZ dude is annoying and I would have no problem seeing them die. The kids in particular need to be killed off asap.

Watching Ballers as well. Entertaining enough but expected much better.

Ballers is okay. It's not that funny )other than the white dude) and some is pretty depressing (seeing players lost when they retire). Still, titties...

Narcos is good, really enjoying the way the story is told
