Try Savan's bakery when going through Warkworth. Won heaps of awards (possibly even best in NZ IIRC) and they are really good pies. They are even in some of the local petrol stations.
I'd love to but if you try to do something other than go straight through SH1, your totally fucked at that bloody junction! There are stil people stuck there since 1976
