Maketu pies have never been the same since they expanded into supermarkets etc. As a regional pie maker they were in the right niche. Its a highlight of travelling around the regions grabbing a local steak pie
Try Savan's bakery when going through Warkworth. Won heaps of awards (possibly even best in NZ IIRC) and they are really good pies. They are even in some of the local petrol stations.
