RWC: England v New Zealand (SF1)
-
Game was lost up front.
We picked a team to dominate the lineouts and instead England picked us off repeatedly and we barely pressured them - won one I think.
As it turned out, we'd picked a bench designed to accelerate momentum, rather than shift it when we were going backwards. I thought subbing Goodhue and Bridge were silly decisions, when they were among our best players - Goodhue especially was excellent. None of our subs looked like turning the game - Coles was decent enough.
Not good enough. Congratulations England.

@Billy-Tell He's so much better than Bridge. When has that clown beaten a defender with pace in this tournament?

But, but, but, he scored 4 tries against Tonga! Surely he was our best winger!

Bridge just gets to the tackle fast, no evasion at all. Good at tacking high balls, and chasing kicks. Nothing else.

We didnt lose because of our backs. Our forwards got monstered. In the scrums, in the lineouts and at the breakdowns.
This is the most comprehensive defeat my middle age brain can remember

This.
We were rabbits in headlights when we should have taken a deep breath, absorbed the pressure and built control.
There were times when we looked like doing just that - and then gave away stupid penalties, kicks or turn-overs.
Hate to say it, but Read ain't a good captain under pressure.

Yes but he’s been in poor form all year. Pity because on form he’s great.

@Billy-Tell Excellent in Super Rugby until the Blues dipped. Scored a try in Perth then made a scapegoat for it.

He’ll be an ok fullback one day

Comiserations to all you kiwis, your team let you down, but in fairness they never gave up. But that performance from England would have beaten anyone. Relentless.

Haven't seen an ABs team beaten up for 80 minutes like that since the 1991 Semi Final.
A great one-off? Part of a fantastic RWC campaign by Eddie and co? Or the start of an era of England dominance?

Well that's something at least. what were moody, Taylor, laulala, retallick, whitelock, Barrett, savea and read good at?
-
Kearns, Barnes and the Foxtel panel are chuffed as hell. piston wristed gibbons.
-
Hanson and co got their selection badly wrong. Reece is just too small. Bridge was ordinary. With Barrett as well the back three was unbalanced. So if Reece is on 1 wing (I just don't rate him though) select a power winger on the other one
It was a poorly selected team and the England coaches totally and utterly out-coached and out-selected Hanson and co
@Winger don’t have too many problems with backs. Apart from kicking game which is tactical. The forwards were average tonight. No hard hitting and ruck presence without Cane. Ardie is a runner. The ABs were cleaned out at lineouts and beaten up by energy of English who outlasted them.
If you are referring to Reiko he has been full of mistakes and really has let the selectors down.

@allblackfan2 Its going to get very painful

Breakdown was the downfall. AB's couldn't handle rush defence. We played trash. England just played so well. Clinical as fuck. AB's didn't deserve shit.

Fuckin' John Mitchell. I should have ran him over when he went for his runs past my house.

He shouldn't be an AB. Anyway goodbye to Hanson and hopefully Foster and all the other coaches and selectors involved. NZ have wonderful players. we just need to find another competent head coaches (like Henry) who can combine the best players around the country (rather than mainly relying on just one team) .

I keep cycling through the first three stages of grief - shock, anger, despair...too soon to move on to acceptance just yet. But the sun will come up tomorrow, I will be wearing my AB's shirt on my morning stroll with the dog in my local Brisbane park...and once I manage to move to that fourth stage I will be barracking for the Saffa's tomorrow.
