@Nepia what should have happened, was if WR have these directives (which seem a bit OTT) then if England had gone to them and said 'we intend doing this' and WR go yep, sweet.
It did appear England wanted to circle us completely but officials stopped them??

I don't know? There are protocols, there are fines for breaking the protocols, you break the protocols you pay the fine - I don't know what else there is to it other than most of us think there shouldn't be the protocols in place. Also, it's not just the opposition, if the ABs have advanced above where they should then they too would cop a fine.

With regard to World Rugby's haka/cibi/siva tau/sipi tau protocols, they are in place because some teams took the response to extremes. Look up Richard Cockerill/Norm Hewitt, and that Irish guy (Willie Anderson?).
I immediately thought of Willie Anderson in 1989. A pity Read didn't follow Buck's lead and advance as well. The haka response was symptomatic of the game itself.

Yup, they should have advanced a bit - needed Mike Brewer on the edge to move forward too (he was way ahead of the team in 89 IIRC).

I think they should not be fined, and should be allowed to stand up to the haka if they want. If a fight breaks out, fine that behaviour.
Only been two incidents I can remember of someone being a dickhead about that.
I think I remember reading that after the Richard Cockerill/ Norm Hewitt face off world rugby actually made the decision to split the teams.. hence not going over half way. Could be wrong, but I believe thats where it came from.

Thought what England did was brilliant. Teams should be fined if they spit at the Haka or assault the players doing it, apart from that the opposition can respond to the challenge as they see fit.
I'd prefer going back to Ka Mate as the All Black haka for all tests. There should be a single Haka leader (from the starting XV) too.

Yeah I was pissed off how we didn't advance also - all the players know there's a fine for going over the 10m mark, when the AB's saw England doing it they should have responded. France did the same a few years back and again we let them cop the fine on their own.

It goes back to what we were discussing on here a little while ago that it’s become a performance. I don’t doubt the emotion and feeling put in by the players, but the formation, microphones etc removes some of the spontaneity that can occur like movement forward.
Whilst many remember the 2003 RWC match against Tonga for their sipi tau starting during the ABs haka, what I also loved was Kees Meuws responding in his own personal way.

I also couldn't give a toss whether England are fined or not for their vaginal thrust.
But the protocols are daft and should change. We should respect the right to perform the haka and the opposition right to respond. Advancing, yelling, gesturing , whatever, all should be allowed.
The line should only be drawn at physical contact.
If we can't trust 2 sides of professional players to not start punching each other before the official commencement of 80mins of trench warfare, then we have bigger issues.

Thank you, Joe Marler, this week was getting boring. Now, at least, we have a tabloid row about the Haka to enjoy. Hopefully "aura" and accusations of cheating will be next.
Joe Marler risks All Blacks backlash as he calls for Haka to be banned
Marler's comments will no doubt fan the flames ahead of a real test for England, who have only won eight of their 45 encounters with their opponents.
