Just filled out my form. That pamphlet with the flagpole/backpack/waving flag pics was very well done.
 
Red peak is still my hatiest flag, but have to say the bicep flexing octopus is a close second.

I've been doing a lot of walking lately and have the opportunity to see all the flags flying on various properties.
 
Have to say the current one probably looks the most like a flag. RP the least.
 
Blue black doesn't look great IMO - the blue and black don't contrast enough. Although it is probably my preference now that I've seen the pamphlet. I totally agree with whoever said the backpack images clearly show which are brands
 
My issue is the Lockwood fern. I just don't like it.

I've had a few people on facebook throw up photos of the blue/red Lockwood flag next to some New Zealand lamb in a butchery in Abu Dhabi or some such place, of course the discourse that follows that is that the flag has already been changed and the referendum is just a sham...I've very kindly pointed out a plausible explanation but we all know how those folk go with facts, proof and common sense.
 
Does anyone else get this level of retard on facebook? Is it new phenomenon or is it local to New Zealand? I never really noticed anything like that when based in the UK. Really has me looking at certain friends and acquaintances in a horrible new light.

I have seen plenty of those, as well as the meme with a pic of the flag and Key, and the words don't change this (under the flag) change this (under Key)
 
I tend to avoid these kinds of discussions on FB...I made a simple fact based comment a little while back on my kids school page about a change they were making, and the due I was correcting tried to engage me in a discussion about the merits of the change and all sorts, which made it even clearer he hadn't read the news letter, nor did he know jack from jill!
 
So each response I merely pointed back to the original question he asked, and that it might be a good idea if he went in and spoke to the school...2 weeks later he posted that he had been in to the school and now thought they were awesome!

One of the reasons I'm not on Facebook is I don't want people sending me their idiot theories like this , when you point out what a massive waste of brain synapses they are for buying into whatever conspiracy theory is going the rounds and why it is nonsense it must be a bit awkward when you meet them at a BBQ . 
That and I don't want the weirdo at school who liked to cut up roadkill knowing where I live.

So my feelings on the voting goes like this.
 
I don't want Red Peak due mainly because of the over-the-top "this is the peoples flag!!!!" nonsense (and because its just coloured triangles...seriously)
I don't want Lockwood red and blue mainly because I'm hoping to make some money off some conspiracy retards and get them to put their money where their mouth is and take a $20 bet that the flag hasn't already been chosen.
I don't want Koru just because it just doesn't look very good, other Koru designs I liked a lot more
So that leaves Lockwood blue & black and Air New Zealand fern

I saw an apple box in a recycling bin that was black on two sides and on the other two had a fern that resembled the fern option in the referendum . 
Democracy is obviously dead in nz the govt have chosen already etc etc.

I think the current flag will win in a land slide. That disappoints me but not as much as it disappoints me that any chance of a real debate has been destroyed by frenzied politicking and social media retardness.
The conservative fringe has been joined by the hate John Key fringe. It is a weird mix. And when you combine it with the perfectly normal folks who just like the current flag or are who easily influenced by the fringe.. then the result is a foregone conclusion.
 
I also have real issues with the RSA and the stance they are taking. telling people to sabotage the democratic process is a disgrace, as is taking a position at all. The RSA is an organisation for members. And I know for a fact that some members want a change. A majority? Maybe not. Probably not. But enough to know that as an organisation they have no real right to speak on behalf of members on this issue.

As some would know in my spare time I chair a NFP with over 4,000 business members and as such have been heavily engaged in submitting on their behalf to the hearings on Akl Councils proposed Unitary Plan.
 
One of our biggest issues is avoiding the temptation to believe we know best and to instead actively canvas the opinions of our members.
 
Of course we can never please everyone but we at least make a real effort to hear the view of all and fairly represent it.
 
RSA seem to have made a basic assumption on the wants of their membership which I think is probably accurate but ignores a sizeable minority. A minority that is big enough so that they should have resisted any of the grandstanding they're indulging in.
 
Wrapping yourself in the flag (sic) to promote anti-democratic behaviour is the anti-thesis of what they are trying to promote.
 
This whole issue sure has seen some bizarre alliances.

How old would the now of the rsa members be now? There'd be hardly any from ww2 a few from Korea and Malaya and the rest would be viet nam era wouldn't they? If the majority are from the viet nam era urs quite odd to see them getting behind the flag they fought for etc, we had a seperate club for viet nam vets the police and fire fighters because the local branch treated thd viet nam vets like they didn't belong.
