I think I'm about 8 episodes in, is that past where it gets better? (That way I can decide whether to keep going, as I really should watch The Walking Dead so I don't have to avoid half the posts on this thread).
-

I liked Hannibal, good watch (not a must watch kinda series like TWD, GOT, The Americans) although it did get tiresome about half way through the final series!

-

Caught the first few minutes of into the badlands , some hottie was cutting up a bunch of guys with about 8 different knives. Lots of matrix style violence, unfortunately is seemed a bit same old after that .

It was like Summer Glau going nuts in firefly but with way more blood and smaller knives, more of that and less talking would be nice.
-

I remember not being too impressed with the first season but I thought the second season was excellent.

Does anyone here have Apple TV? The mrs has suggested we get another way of watching tv I don't use to go with Netflix and light box . Worth getting ? Easy to set up?

Depends on what you want it for. The new one is apparently more powerful and can do more but, like many products NZ doesn't reap the full functionality anyway.

I have an older one and it has been great as a way of connecting my other Apple devices to my TV eg if you see something on your ipad or phone that you want to share on the big screen, it just airplays across.

It works well (on a good connection) for watching movies from iTunes (at their prices obviously) and the Netflix app works well.

With a VPN or DDNS you can trick it to being in the US and use a US Netflix account if you want.

NZ suppliers of product eg TVNZ OnDemand and TV3 on demand and Lightbox, for some reason, won't/ can't get apps on it. The OnDemand ones also won't Airplay stream from your device to the TV due to supposed licensing restrictions, although I think it is more to do with deals with Smart TV manufacturers. Lightbox currently doesn't stream because the numpties there didn't notice that iOS9 changed the airplay protocols to AppleTV and weren't prepared for the change.

If you don't have other Apple devices and just want to stream then look at a Chromecast stick instead. If you want to access all of your Apple media such as music and photos, hire some movies, watch some Netflix and Airplay from your iphone/ipad then it does the job.
-

yeap we have apple tv ~ bloody easy to setup up ~ mind you we are streaming off wife's mac so not sure how it works with a PC. You just plug it in allow homesharing on your iTunes account enter the password and your off to the races

I really like how I can mirror my iphone onto the TV through apple.

it also streams your picture library as a slideshow which is pretty cool

downside is

the remote is bloody tiny and easy to lose ~ you can use your iphone as a remote though (which I haven't done)

when streaming from iphone it can lock up.
-

Apple TV makes getting US Netflix easy. That's pretty much what i use it for. Handy for renting movies too.

Actually I forgot that you don't need to VPN for US Netflix if you set up a US iTunes account and point your AppleTV to it.
-

Have 2 of them, one in the bedroom for the girls ( and me at night) so easy to use Netflix my 5 year old knows how to use it.
The US one is better -

Had the Apple TV4 demo'ed and it is now the next gadget in the DK household.

Key features for me

Plex TV app

The ability to search using Siri for all movies across your subscriptions, for me Plex (own movie library), iTunes, Netflix. You can have fuzzy searches such as best action movies of the 1990's and it will show the full list across all your sources, you can continue refining them by, only Stallone movies, which refines it further. Select the movie you want to watch and it will give you a choice of source to use.

Pretty good looking Game apps

Remote Control, easy to use (but expensive if you lose or break it)

-

Didnt realise that, ive been subscribing to Unotelly most of the year now. Whats great is you can switch between all 20 odd Netflix territories and pick your preferred content. They even have a website that allows you to search for a particular tv show or movie on Netflix and it tells you which region its available in.

You would be surprised how much fucken Mexico has..
-
I've recently bought a Raspberry Pi 2 for all of my TV and movie watching. Its about the size of a deck of cards and plugs into the hdmi of your tv. Its basically allows any layman the ability to access all those video streams online without running the risk of viruses. Can get pretty much any tv show or movie thats ever come out and even can run international streams including sky sports. Also as an added bonus it can wirelessly play media from any device on your network and can be controlled using your smartphone. Needless to say I just don't download any more now. As to the legality of it well I don't know much about that...

That is superb, the behind the scenes episodes are always worth watching too. His cameramen go to extraordinary lengths to get footage for him.
-
