You should spoiler that shit...oh wait, that sounds vaguely familiar! Was something to do with timber?

If its the one I think it is, then, the highlights of the movie are Jennifer and the end!

Yes, timber. And yes, the end credits were a definite highlight.
-

Billy Bathgate, dead calm , eyes wide shut. There's more I think and good on her.
Edit, malice as well. Good movie that. I think she might have got nekkid in that film where she played the batshit crazy weather girl too.

Jennifer Lawrance if you're reading this, it's time.

Batshit crazy weather girl was To Die For. She was great in that. And legalicious Satine in Moulin Rouge.
-

Well I haven't seen moulin rouge and hopefully never will but she was awesome in to die for, if you haven't seen malice check it out. She plays a great sociopath in that one too and Alec Baldwin has a rant that's almost as good in his one in glengarry glen Ross. -
Stand By Me. A timeless classic.

No Escape - Owen Wilson, Lake Bell and Peirce Brosnan

Wilson is an Engineer who gets a job in South East Asia, but soon after he arrives, there is a civil uprising and him and his family get caught up in it. I liked Brosnans character in it (never liked before, but this and November Man I think it was he was good) anyway, I liked the movie, basic story, decent pace and intensity (with obvious flaws, but don't most movies) has the expected ending, but that's what most people like.
-
I've been thinking,

Its been bloody ages since I've finished watching a movie and just sat there amazed thinking "faaaaaaaark that was awesome, I need to see that again now". I'm talking Braveheart, Forrest Gump, Jurrasic Park, Fight Club, American History X, The Matrix.

Is that old age making me cynical or are movies just not living up to what they once were? -

I fucking hate Forest Gump.

You're kind of making the same point people make when they look back at music. "Music was so much better in the 70s, none of this crap like today" which cherry-picks the awesome bits you like, while completely forgetting the complete dross that often went to #1.

Those movies you list, 6 of them, span 7 years, 1995, 1994, 1993, 1999, 1998, 1999. So about 1 a year that go on to all-time classics.

If you cast your mind back through a similar point now there are some pretty good movies

2015: Jurassic World. Fucking Star Wars in 2 weeks!

2014: Interstellar

2012: The Avengers, Skyfall, The Dark Night Rises

2010: Toy Story 3, Inception

2009: Avatar, The Dark Night

Over this period you've also got unreal kids movies, How To Train Your Dragon (x2), Despicable Me (x2), Big Hero 6, Megamind (i fucking love Megamind). Also smaller movies like Predestination which i thought was brilliant.

just looking back, 1999 was a fucking great year for movies though.
-

I watched "Into the Wild" last night. Interesting. I thought i had read the book, but seeing when it was written, i doubt i have, maybe i just read about the story somewhere. It's pretty clear the director, Sean Penn, was quite taken with the main character, and his motivations. Personally i had little sympathy for him, and his ending. A kid, from a privileged background, with an uncomfortable (but not terrible) home life, who along the course of his journey meets a heap of people who actively help him, and he really connects with, but who he ultimately abandons to follow this idea he has in his head about what he needs to do. And it kills him. Leaving behind a heap of people who cared about him. What an asshole.

The moral? Everyone dreams of escaping their lives, the reality is often far less romantic than the dream. And sometimes entitled, delusional little shits get what they deserve.

I also was flicking past World Movies the other night, and saw a famous name, "Deep Throat". Anyone seen it? I watched about 10 minutes. It's the strangest fucking thing ever. It's a porno, with all the storyline, acting skills, and production quality you would expect from a 70s porno. But without any nudity, or sex (that you can see) at all. It's fucking strange. In the bit i watched, she is obviously giving this guy an extended head job, and she is totally going to town. And what is on screen? Close-ups of her ear, or a bit of her forehead, all vigorously moving up and down. Occassionally a sight of a sucked-in cheek, or a cut to the dude laying back, with his eyes rolling in to his head. And then i assume she got him off, because there was a cut to fireworks, and a bell ringing. WTF? Within 4 minutes of this she is fucking some dude. Clothed. And you get heaps of shots of navel, and face. And i think at one point he was was supposed to be drinking coke from her vagina with a straw. But you can't see where the straw goes, or where he pours the coke. It's the weirdest thing i have seen. 2/10, very hard to masturbate to.
-

that is an awesome post M4L, agree with the first part (into the wild) as for the 2nd part, that is a classic rant (ive not seen it)

-

I actually enjoyed "Into the Wild" it was an interesting story, told well (ok the constant jumping around in time was hard to keep track of sometimes), and it raised some interesting points about escapism, and modern life. I just wasn't as taken with the main character as the director obviously was, and i found myself less saddened by his end, than the feelings of all those people in his life.

Also, god help me, i think there is something wrong with me. First my admission that i find Kidman attractive, and now i have to admit if find Kristen Stewart, in all her sullen, wooden, emotionless-ness, fucking sexy. And i think she was only 16-17 in this movie, which also puts me on some sort of watchlist.
-
Jurassic World was crud.

Good movies of 2015:
Ex Machina
Mad Max
Straight Outta Compton
Sicario
Black Mass
Slow West

Probably good but haven't seen yet:
The Martian
Hateful Eight
Creed
Heart of the Sea -
Mad Max was surely a movie that left you thinking ..WTF is this! Cracking movie and I've enjoyed watching it a couple times since, recommend checking out the behind the scenes too
Jurassic World was cool too I thought, Chris Pratt has certainly made some very very good career choices ( Guardians of the Galaxy is another recent fav) -
I find it hard to feel sorry for anyone who changes their name to supertramp, having said that it was a decent story. He wasn't that far from the road, how far can you drag a bus? And he didn't even have decent boots, a truck driver forced him to take his spare pair. Interesting that the old guy decided to take to the road and lead a similar life , hope it worked out better for him.

Re deep throat , I watched part of that a while ago and it was pretty gross I thought. The women were heinous and it was obviously a more hirsute time, apparently it was shown at mainstream movie theatres when it was released. I can't imagine how foul that collection of munters bumping uglies looked on a big screen. -

yea, I'm gutted i missed Mad Max
