    So Engerland lose their last 5 wickets for 22 runs.

    Thank you @booboo that worked rather well.

    Best that you don't get out of bed until stumps though.

    Wasn't asleep but hadn't been checking score updates. Seemed to work.

          @booboo rain in the afternoon.

          We’re due to be saved* by the rain gods.

          *When I say saved, it’s still entirely possible that we could (should) be able to save ourselves from this position even with a full days play.

          But rain would certainly help.

            I think we're actually too good to have one of those "ye olde" style NZ collapses.

            We can still collapse - but we probably have to be a bit blasted out. Latham, Williamson, Taylor, Nicholls, Watling are collectively too good to all fall apart and throw their wickets away on a flattish pitch.

            If the Australians put us in on a lively pitch and unleash Starc, Hazlewood and Cummins we might easily get blasted out.

            I would like to think so too Chris, but earlier I suggested Jeet could stick around and the reverse happened ha ha, so I will stick to collapse tomorrow for now 🙂

              Poms'll have to roll us in about less than 50 overs tomorrow to win.

              If they do, all credit to them and we'll have to sing Led Zepps "Nobody's fault but mine" all the way to Perth.

              Up to our best in Kane and Ross to complete the series win by batting the entire 1st session ( he types jinxingly!)

                Crunched some numbers and I reckon we have to bat to midway of the last session to be safe.

                75 overs at 2.5rpo = 187
                Plus 76 on the board
                Less 101 deficit
                Target = 163 in 15 overs = 10.9 rpo
                Would think that's safe.

                70 overs at 2.5 = Target of 150 @ 7.5
                Possibly achievable

                    With no restrictions on ultra defensive fields, more latitude to bowl negatively and the ability to bowl Wagner unchanged at one end 7.5 RPO would be bloody difficult.

                      True. But it is conceivable.

                      Only a few overs and runs each way and it gets considerably easier/harder.

                      I've also just realised I didn't take the 3 overs for change of innings out. Although that doesn't happen if it coincides with tea break I think.

                        We have 96 on the board not 76 so that wipes out a few extra overs, but play will start early so there will be more than 90 overs required. (ignoring the weather forecast that others have noted).

                          Effectively 12/2. A very retro Black Caps scoreline with R A Ndom and M S Cellaneous 90's Black Caps openers back in the pavilion.

                          Handy of Pope to drop Williamson.

                            Rattling along at around 4 an over this morning.

                            While that's good for the lead, probably also a sign that the pitch is flattening out and the range of chaseable totals is higher than what we might have thought yesterday.

                              That was such a bad drop. I get people make mistakes, but his whole technique was terrible - poor body position, moved late, hands in the wrong position. Is he an actual keeper or a batsmen that keeps a bit?

                                Batsman that keeps a bit. I think this is either his 5th or 6th time keeping in first class cricket. England didn't bring out a keeper to back up Buttler, favouring an extra batsman.

                                  Very costly. You can get away with it in the shorter forms but bad keepers inevitably gets found out in the test arena. Dropping guys like Kane (or Kohli, Smith etc) who can just bat for days can cost you the game.

                                    Crunched some numbers and I reckon we have to bat to midway of the last session to be safe.

                                    75 overs at 2.5rpo = 187
                                    Plus 76 on the board
                                    Less 101 deficit
                                    Target = 163 in 15 overs = 10.9 rpo
                                    Would think that's safe.

                                    70 overs at 2.5 = Target of 150 @ 7.5
                                    Possibly achievable

                                    Have redone that calc.
                                    98 overs today.
                                    Run rate is ticking at just over 3
                                    Batting out 75 overs would be pretty comfortable

                                      Effectively 12/2. A very retro Black Caps scoreline with R A Ndom and M S Cellaneous 90's Black Caps openers back in the pavilion.

                                      Handy of Pope to drop Williamson.

                                      @No-Quarter I missed the Pope drop, but I'm guessing it's not as bad as the one that Denly just dropped off Kane.

                                      You'd get abused for dropping that one in tenth grade! 🙂

                                        Cricinfo says....So, so village. The worst drop by an England fielder since Mike Gatting on the India tour in 1992-93 (YouTube it...)

                                        So I did.
