Star Wars VII ****contains spoilers****

I don't have a problem with them introducing characters but not having full conclusions around them. They are rebooting a series. Phasma has been introduced and will come back pissed off at Finn and Chewie.

The old fella at the beginning (Max von Sydow) must have an interesting backstory which I assume will come out in one of the other series of movies or Rebels.
-

He's looked about that age since the 70s. I think he would have made an excellent baddie aka Count Dooku. Interesting he was a good guy. Still knowing Star Wars there'll be an in depth story on him on Wookiepedia.....

As far as I can tell he hasn't popped up elsewhere yet. He dropped hints saying Leia was 'always a princess to him' and that he knew all about Kylo Ren.

In much of the pre-movie plotline guessing (from bits people picked up during filming) it was expected that he gave Poe the lightsaber and that is how Rey ended up with it. If that was orginally in the script, I'm glad they didn't go through with it. Much more mystery in the Maz Kanata/Lightsaber story instead.

The biggest talking point seems to be the origins of Rey. Obvious guess is that she is a Skywalker. The flashback scene seems to show that she was saved from the 'academy' and hidden. For her to pick up Force abilities so quickly once introduced to them points toward her bloodline being from such strong heritage as well. So is the real question 'who is Rey's mother?'
-
Luke seemed pretty damn committed to the cause and Obi Wan and Yoda never left any offspring but all the signs are there that she is Luke's daughter.....

I still have a few FB friends who haven't seen it and their conclusion is that Kylo Ren is Luke!

maybe Leia and Luke went to a swingers party with Cersei and Jamie Lannister?

I'll never forget Luke's shit eating grin after Leia kissed him in Empire Strikes back......yuuuuuuuucccccckkkkk. -

Here a good insight into Rey's 'vision' and why we don't know everything yet

As Rey touches it, she is hit with an impressionistic wave of images and sounds that depict a cloaked Luke Skywalker in mourning, reaching out for support (or to comfort) R2-D2 beside a fire. She sees bodies scattered in a rainstorm at the feet of Kylo Ren and the masked and menacing Knights of Ren. She sees herself as a young girl, being left in the coarse hands of junk dealer Unkar Plutt on the desert world of Jakku.

And within this, we hear at least two familiar voices: Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda. On Saturday night, I interviewed director J.J. Abrams and his co-screenwriters Lawrence Kasdan and Michael Arndt after a Writers Guild of America screening, and they revealed how – and why – that scene came together the way it did.

“The idea of the voices was, we wanted the audience to feel – but not necessarily be presented right in your face — this idea that familiar, Force-strong voices were connecting with her. At least as well as they could,†Abrams says.

“You do hear a little bit of Yoda. You hear Luke yelling out, ‘Nooo!â€from that moment in Empire. And you hear Obi-Wan at the end say, ‘Rey … these are your first steps,â€
†Abrams says.

As for what Reyâ€s dream sequence doesnâ€
t reveal … Abrams and Kasdan said they knew they had to suggest her backstory, but everyone felt The Force Awakens would be the wrong place to dive too deeply into Reyâ€
s past. “Weâ€
re hoping Rian Johnson can figure that out,†Kasdan joked. “We were really stymied!â€
Of course, they do know who Rey is, where she comes from, and why she was abandoned. But Abrams says part of the appeal of the new trilogy will be spreading out those revelations.
“Everyone who has seen these movies thinks about ‘I am your father …â€and ‘There is another …â€
,†the director said. “But neither of those things were in [1977â€
s original] Star Wars. Star Wars didnâ€
t say Luke was the son of Vader. Star Wars didnâ€
t say Leia was the sister of Luke. You didnâ€
t understand what these references were: the Empire, dark times, Clone Wars. There were these things that were discussed that donâ€
t get explained. George [Lucas] dropped you into a story and respected you to infer everything necessary to understand what you need to know.â€

The Force Awakens does confirm the family relationships of villain Kylo Ren, and Abrams felt that was enough. “Can this movie actually also hold, ‘And Rey is this … And Finn is that … And this is where Poe is from …â€This is the first of a series. There is a story to be told. And it will be.â€

Never expected Star Wars to have little cameos, great stuff. The red headed Moff Tarkin equivalent is Brendon Gleesons son for all you trainspotters out there. -

I knew he was in it, along with Brienne of Tarth, but wasnt until after I worked out who they were in the movie.

The Nerd is not so strong with this one..... -
Just got back from the cinema. Overall very impressed but also agree with most of the pointed out plot holes. I'm hoping now that its out and getting good reviews that the next one can go dark like ESB. Definitely a fun watch and I can't for the life of me work out in this world of social media how I managed to not have anything spoiled for me!

Rey certainly seems Luke-like...could it be that Solo and Leia broke up because of her promiscuity? It would also explain Luke buggering off in shame..more so too when he found out she also had a love-child with Ross from Friends. -

So no chance that you saw Bran from GoT as an officer on the Star Destroyer or one of the Sand Snakes as a X-wing pilot then?
