They basically said in the movie that they would explain this later. 2 more movies still to come. R2D2 suddenly spluttering into life at the end was more problematic from a plot perspective. Presumably he started up because Rey had come to the station who is probably related to Luke somehow.
-

I don't understand the criticism. This is an inter-galactic civil war with evil people in it. Evil people generally don't want to let the good heroes go out in a blaze of glory. Mind you they wouldn't have destroyed Starkiller Base without Han.

You are meant to be angry at Kylo Ren not at JJ Abrams if you don't like Han dying.

Who wrote and directed the film, JJ Abrams or Kylo Ren?

I'm sitting at my desk now and facing me are a few old SW figures that my kids found at my parents' place and gave to me. One of them is the first SW figure I ever owned, Han Solo in snow gear. I guess that's why I'm not only pissed off that he was killed, but that the manner of his death was so pathetically lame. Killed by his jug-eared son. Sorry if that offends anyone. -

If I was Han Solo I'd be offended at being killed by my jug-eared son, especially cos everyone bar Han could see it coming...dont go on the bridge Han, Han! HAN ARE YOU LISTENING???
-

Casual observers of this thread may observe that despite the geek levels being close to critical many of us are in fact Dads.....so in the same situation we can't be sure how we'd react. -

could go in a couple of threads really

When i watched it the second time i was able to enjoy it in a different way. There are some stunning shots in it.

I thought the same. SW7 is the best looking movie from the franchise yet
-
Yep, totally agree that it looks sensational. The prequels seemed too bright and computer-like. This looked much more "real".

Real is the word. Not just the planet locations, the battles too. It was one of the things I disliked about Lucas' interventions in the first trilogy too. I have a directors cut type DVD box set and all of the extra bits he inserted, mostly into a new hope, were shithouse and added little or nothing to the films
-

Going to be the best 4billion Disney have ever spent, they'll be in the black before Episode 8 (with the Rogue Squadron movie next) -

And the cartoon show spinoffs, along with their merchandise. Disney are squeezing every single bit of value out of their investment. At least the fans finally get to watch series and films that do the franchise justice at long last
