Is this Winiata reffing Eng v Rus? She's been pretty crap and heavily favoured England.

@Bones The same could be said about the World Doping Authority favouring (or not applying the available sanctions in full) Russia.

@Bones That wasn't Winiata. It was an Aussie ref.

BF7s starting without Blyde, Nathan-Wong and Fluhler. After 1:37 minutes, still scoreless against invitational team Japan. Bring on the subs after the break, please.

The BF7s look like they're playing in energy-saving mode. Not a bad idea, considering the high temperature and the even higher temperatures expected later today (over 40 degrees). But they still need to win this.

    HT: 0 all.

@Stargazer SOme of them were very poor last week, especially that sheila that refereed the China v Fijiana game. World Rugby don't appear to be selecting match officials on merit!

@Higgins I think they focus a lot on referee development. A lot of these refs are new and inexperienced.

Finally, a try! The subs making an impact. Fluhler gets the BF7s on the board. Nathan-Wong converts.

    7 - 0 BF7s

Brazier runs through the Japanese defence untouched.

@Stargazer Well then in that particular official's case it is money thrown away given the way Fiji were utterly stiffed in that game. Being "new and inexperienced" does not excuse incompetence no matter how much "referee development" might have been chucked at her.

Try Blyde. Too easy. Great conversion by Nathan-Wong.

Well over one and half minutes in referee's time, Tui scores another try.

@Bones Haha, Hirini is the one and only captain. If she doesn't play, it's Nathan-Wong.

Ah hah, cheers. He also called Fluhler and Saili captains and maybe Williams too!

Just looked at the results of the earlier games that I missed. Quite an upset in the first game, with Fijiana beating the USA 19 to 14.
