“Rag” moves at a good clip, staying focused entirely on the stories of Picard and his crew and their visit to Freecloud; no distracting, pointless side-trips to check in on Soji and the V.C. Andrews Assassins.

Shame about the crappy Whedon female character though.

    The blonde scientist? Yeah, annoying.

@Tim did you think the villain looked distractingly like Deanna Troi?

@Tim Did you watch the latest RedLetterMedia Picard video.

They have a pretty disturbing take on one of the scenes, about the original actor of the character killed for parts. Pretty sick by the writers, IMO.

@Kirwan Yeah I did. I was thinking at the time: this is some fucked up shit to put into something that kids might watch.

Completely unnecessary for Star Trek, even Battlestar Galatica didn't show Tigh losing his eye, and that show was pretty grim.

Sounds like season 4 & 5 of STD are being filmed back to back.

    Three more seasons.

    Hope it gets better.

Im just wondering though, this is a nostalgia show. Are kids watching this shit?

I have a ton of kids in my extended family. Anime nerds & manga nerds. Star Wars geeks and Marvel freaks.

All at worrying levels of fandom. I mean they are so in the know for young kids its not the normal passing interest. None of them care about star trek.

Well I was going to see (if it was any good) getting my 12 year old to watch with me. He does not need to see gore porn like that.

Didn’t even occur to me that Picard would have that sort of violence.

And yep, my son watched most of the Marvel and freaking loved the Mandalorian.

@raznomore This is the only forum or subreddit I frequent where I've seen it discussed. I haven't met anyone else in real life who's interested in it, and I'm a STEM academic.

It’s the perfect time in the culture for a show about optimism and working together. The TOS tackled some pretty weighty topics without sacrificing the quality of the show.

Finally, a Picard Episode that felt like Star Trek. Nice seeing the dynamic between characters, and them actually acting like their old characters.

@Tim thanks forgot about this. Be interesting to see what they thought, it’s felt much closer to old Trek in the last few episodes. Stuff actually happened.

    So, not so much!

I've settled into enjoying it for what it is. I kind of agree that the characters don't match the TV Show. Not far from the movies though, which is where the disconnect is I think.

Picard is OK - can see how he could have evolved into how he is portrayed, but why does every other "new" character have to be dick?

Yeah, that's getting old. I actually liked the Romulan caretakers from the beginning, not sure why we needed so many new characters when you could have just started with those two.

I think the main point, which is fair, is that Picard was not overly fond of Data. Sure that could have changed with the sacrifice over time, but it is kind of weird. And Picard hated children! Why would he be reading bed time stories to the Ninja?

Anyway, I like space opera TV, and there is less crying than Discovery. And 7 of 9 is a favorite of mine.

Old men either get curmudgeonly or sentimental - they seem to be trying to make Picard both - I love you too Raffi....

    C'mon no way.

Yeah, that scene was going great when he looked extremely uncomfortable, then they bailed on it.
