THIS. Quality eggs is up there in terms of importance with quality of steak/fish.

Storing good quality eggs in a sealed jar/tupperware with a whole truffle is awesome, infuses the flavour straight in through the shells.

Shit, wrong thread...
-
The feral that threw brown liquid on Brownlee yesterday
Lost a kid to falling rubble in the February quake
Doesn't live in Christchurch he lives in Greymouth and whines about the rebuild
He and his wife are sickness beneficiaries but say the govt is heartless.
Got home d for possessing child porn which he tried to blame on his sons death but started looking at it years before the quakes.

That's the thing that rips my undies bro - the fringe element paints the broader group of people who disagree with the TPPA or Flag or whatever. Or like that last protest where the guy interviewed had fuck all knowledge of what he was even protesting.

My dislike (hate is a strong word/feeling) of Key and National makes me super aware of my bias and the need to play the ball not the (wo)man. With the flag I'm salty about the process and meh about the new options... but such is life!
-

What was wrong with the process specifically?
-

no graphic designers (or design folks) on committee, roadshow approach to engage with community felt super out of touch and was poorly attended. Which imo led to little variation when it came to the final options. You can look at that as reflecting clear theme/s or elements that people liked but I think we missed out on some designs or feedback to flag designers by the committee

-

I felt there was a decent variety of people (sure there woulda been gaps, but you will never please everyone) who had a decent grasp of NZ and what it meant to be a NZer, not convinced someone with a design background (god forbid Vexology) was required given they weren't designing the flags, they were assessing those that were submitted, of which many you could tell had no proper 'design' input.

-

I think the flag has bought out the worst in the country. I've been ashamed to read some of the things I've read.

Apparently Carter and Richie are just "fukn merceneries" to money from Key and thats why they are saying they are pro change.

I get that some people don't like Key, I get that those that don't like Key and want the flag to stay have a double-barrel hatred of the guy. But there seems to be a complete lack of ability to respect other peoples opinions..

Most of it is very shameful.
-

Now I feel like I'm running the Wellington 7's!!

But in a funny kind of way there are parallels. If people aren't engaged then why would they watch, listen or attend? Flag consultation had a better starting position as it was new and really significant. Yet the numbers were low enough for it to be a source for average NZ comedy show piss takes. Would fully agree that some form of face-to-face consultation is vital in such a big conversation and decision. Also appreciate that the organisers would have been criticised if that hadn't been part of the programme. Not an easy task but disappointing imo.
-

That's a strength of the process IMO. In NZ, the minute you put someone like that on the committee, they'll want to be hip, PC, trendy, ground-breaking, cutting edge, deep, profound...

...and you'll end up with some arty-farty flag that appeals to the fringe arts community and no-one else.

I don't think the Lockwood design is particularly good, I would have just done something with a fern, and left the southern cross out of it, but the fundamental issue for me personally is having a flag that isn't a British colonial template flag that is constantly confused with being British or Australian.
-

Why do they need a design person? What would a design person know about popularity of a flag.. proof of that.. Red Peak crashing and burning.

How many flag designers does N Z have? Who would you have suggested?

As for poor attendance.. oh well.. that is not the processes fault. What are they supposed to do ... drag people in?

So far your criticisms of the 'process' seem rather weak.
