That's not terribly controversial. I always tell people that apart from its sublime moments, it's a game you're better off playing. Even then to really appreciate it you need to have played.

Warm crusty white loaves with a beef bourg or stew is magic
Had those as a kid. Underrated
Banana and peanut butter sandwiches were also a hit. The right sweet and savoury mix

League is a game that's been modified to make it a better spectacle for TV. Camera follows person with the ball, no need for panning shots to show space or closeups to show people engaging in dark arts. It's a simple game to watch and understand.
Checkers to Go in comparison.
Although at the lower levels, I once had a girlfriend ask if the point of the game was to have scrums. I said that was merely a reflection of the skill level.

Lineouts were better before lifters were allowed. More beanpoles who could jump, and less 120kg locks.
