Ok so it won't be about quarantine if we dint get it, more likely financial kick backs from Oz

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said she would be “deeply disappointed” if the reports that New Zealand lost the bid to host the Rugby Championship were true.
“As I understand there hasn’t been any official announcement from Sanzaar on their decision however, if that is the outcome then I would be deeply disappointed. We put in a huge amount of effort into that bid, the tournament and even the players, even creating a regime where they could be playing within three days of arrival.
“If the results don’t go our way it would be a result of Sanzaar politics”
“The arrangements we proposed included training while in quarantine, we worked very hard with health and the tournament organisation to make sure we looked after people’s health and didn’t jeopardise the tournament. It did mean that they’d be able to train within three days.
Ardern rejected claims our facilities would not allow us to host the tournament.
“NZ has very successfully hosted tournaments of this nature on a larger scale before. I have every confidence that the facilities we were proposing were up to scratch and the ability to play within three days of arrival was an important part of that pitch.”

@Machpants given Aus intend having fans there, we cant and are unlikely to drop levels anytime soon, I'd say that is a huge factor.

@taniwharugby yeah, I would imagine we'll be back at level 1 soonish, few weeks, but no guarantee we'll stay there. This if you look sat Melbourne and Oz say they a hundred percent will be fine, then they're lying

@Machpants yeah there seem no garantees with CV, but I'd say eye-balls seeing bums on seats is much more appealing for SANZAAR than empty stadiums as would be in NZ, as I assume the Govt were not willing to put a date on change of levels?

1 new case today, in Auckland, but still we are at level 2.

Cindy blaming SANZAAR politics for Australia getting it. Typical of her, blaming everyone else but her government.

Not sure that she realises that 23 of the most popular people in the country aren't politicians. Actually parliament probably come in just ahead of criminals (not to same that they aren't one and the same).

Financial incentives from the Ozzie govts will be the turning point, guaranteed money. Cest la vie, you just got to hope outside can actually fill stadiums, Esp if ABs smash em in the first two Bleds, and for the games without Oz. I reckon they'll struggle

And crowds. If NZ is at level 2 in November then the games will be played in empty stadiums. Not a great look.

Don't politicians do well when the AB's do well?

Ole Cindy will be bricking it with Foster in charge and the AB's away from home. Coupled with potentially losing the bled, because Fozzie.

National could walk this Election.... 🙂

Yeah. The aussies aren't going to allow teams to be having any more latitude than what we have indicated. It will be $. RA subsidising with borrowed funds to try and keep the game alive.

So you end up in a pissing contest to get the games.
I dare say that if our govt paid SANZAR to host there would be an outcry of vote buying. If they haven't there's an outcry of 'why didn't you help'.
                                  No win situation really.
If there was a profit element to the country of hosting then they could argue the spend (like Americas Cup) but if just for feel good factor then they would be putting themselves squarely in Judith's sights.

@Crucial no garantee of crowds vs currently allowed crowds will have been a factor.
