Reminds me of something similar that happened to me, or more correctly my flat mate (I was in the car) in Auckland years ago. But a little more disturbing.
Saturday night heading down Symonds Street, just crossed the bridge over the motorway.
Homeless bloke ran out from the footpath on the left in front of the cemetary, timing his run and basically threw himself onto the front of mate's dungy old car.
Dude survived and was taken off to hospital.
Never found out what became of him or his motivation.
Thinking he may have been looking for a stay in a warm hospital as there would have much surer ways of ending it all than jumping on a 1970s green Datsun doing < 60 on an urban street.

He was a ground instructor on the F3 when I went through, known as Wibble as that what he did a bit after a mid air collision which grounded him! Yeah banter was harsh. Interesting story, only on the Internet Way Back Machine now

@Machpants I assume the bang seats have to be that violent to achieve zero, zero ejection?
Was also the reason that I couldn't join the Airforce and fly fighters. Would have lost my knees due to thigh length and A4's being a bit small for me. From memory max height was 188cm.

Bang seats are less violent then they used to be, they are rockets now, rather than explosives charges. So there is a ramp up of acceleration, rather than instant G. Old seats had a tendency to compress the spine, after 2 or 3 ejections, you were not allowed in them again. And in the post war era, with world war attitudes to safety, that wasn't that uncommon!
Skyhawks are absolutely tiny, so that doesn't surprise me. Normally the is a height min/max, and various limb parts, thigh length, arm reach, weight too. We force fed the tiny lady on my Nav course before her official measure and weigh in, made her drink pints of water. She was only over the limit by less than half a kilo. Fell off a horse in the end, and had to go multi engine. Helis and bang seats were a no go
