Flag

Will be the same for me here in der Schweiz. I don't think kiwis at home realise how appealing the Lockwood flag is to foreigners.

19/20 voted for the other Lockwood in my work poll before referendum 1. -

The flag change website has a point...
-

I think that looks mint! As I said in this thread, this flag looks much better 'flying' or in action than as a graphic!

I don't think its even going to be close.

Young voters (a lot of) seem to be against it, mainly because of the Key thing. Unfortunately anecdotally they have abandoned their inherent <strike>lazyness </strike> apathy and appear to actually be voting.

Reasons I have been given by yoof for voting against change

People have died for the flag

Every country that has changed its flag has gone down the tubes

We will lose our history

Its all John Key

Its because we signed TPPA

It's too Maori

I despair, I really despair.
-

Too Maori! :idiot2:

My colleague said her son (admittedly too young to vote) came home from school with a strong opinion on why we should keep our current flag, talking about our history etc. Influenced by his teachers views.
-

Both my kids (10 and 7) like the new design...from what I gather, both of their teachers have tried to remain impartial in the discussions they have had at school over it, which is interesting given some of the other topical 'political views' I had heard my kids come home with!

I haven't expressed to them which flag I preferred, even my wife when she voted earlier in the week asked which I was voting for.
-

I think as my kids get older am going to really getting fucked off if they come home spouting political crap they have clearly been fed by a teacher.
-
You've got to start them young, my sons been referring to people like the tppa protesters as ferals for a few years now and he's 13 . I've still got a bit of work to rounding out his world view but suffice to say any leftard teacher trying to spout some pro disease bullshit or pinko nonsense is going to have their work cut out for them.

I got my voting paper in the weekend and added my Lockwood tick to the tally on Monday.

Gave a total stinkeye to a chick at work, who not only liked red peak, but was voting to keep the current flag because the process was too expensive and starving children.
-

Classic.. that would hit by buttons so precisely!

I got approached by a Greenpeace collector outside Countdown on the weekend. I said no thanks and then asked why she was wasting her time collecting for a large corporation when she could have been helping in a hospice or collecting for child cancer? Was it all about image for her?

She wasnt very happy, and to be fair.. I was a bit rude in doing that. But .. meh.. I am getting old and more curmudgeonly
-

Not to mention the joys of Islam -

I think Greenpeace contracts out their collecting and those people are actually being paid commissions for signups. More likely to be desperate students and people willing to do anything for a promise of potential money so don't be too harsh on them. They are unlikely to actually believe in the cause.

If you travel to work by train in Welly there is barely a day that goes by without some bucket being waved at you from collectors on the way out. I do like it when a grumpy morning coincides with the Catholic Support Services looking for money. Their pleas are usually answered with "tell the Pope to sell a painting'
-
