@sparky It defies belief doesn’t it? Why not wait just a feW days? It’s not exactly a hardship. Disappointed in Robshaw I have to say.

To go for dinner too. Like they can't visit London for dinner any other time?

@Catogrande I'm more forgiving to the younger guys involved. They were excited to be in the Barbarians environment and followed what the older guys were doing.

For the senior players involved, it is extremely prattish. They were being put up, at great expense, in the JW Marriott Grovesnor House Hotel on Park Lane, one of the swishest hotels in the UK. Yet they couldn't remain there for four evenings during a pandemic!

Glad the Barbarians are able to put a new squad together.

@sparky Apart from the disappointed responses, there also quite funny ones!

It's off. There was another breach of the bubble.

FFS. It's not as if rugby has been hit by the pandemic so lightly it can afford to cancel a prestigious game. Not a good look if the RFU ever needs to ask for government support.

Even worse, I was looking forward to watching the game.

Fuck me, that's pretty bad. You'd expect some serious apologies coming out. The other view might be, with a breach of 12 and another (number not started) were the rules properly explained and/or consequences fully emphasized.

This is a Barbarians RFC fuckup rather than directly an RFU issue. But that aside it is more likely that the Government will ask for RFU support. They seem to have more money to spend.

On serious notepaper I have to say I was not that invested in the actual game. Given the Baa-Baa’s “squad” and the overall circumstances, if there was a choice of watching the game or going down the pub, I’d take the latter.

Sadly I seem to have neither option.

Great show of solidarity of the French Women's rugby team. From a media release from the IRFU:

The France Women’s XVs are to travel to Dublin to complete the final fixture of the 2020 Women’s Six Nations after it emerged that isolation requirements for elite athletes returning to Ireland had put the fixture at threat.

Ireland Government guidance for elite and high-performance athletes, and teams, who travel back to Ireland from a country which is not on the travel Green List, is to restrict their movements for 14 days, aside from sporting activity such as training and competing. The France Women’s XV can travel to and from Ireland without restriction as there is no requirement from the French Government to isolate on return to the country

This is not an issue for the Men’s National Team, who, as full-time professionals remain within a strict high-performance bubble on their return from away fixtures. However, as the Women’s National Team members are amateurs, it is not possible for many of them to commit to isolating for 14 days following a return from the match, if held in France, as they, understandably, have responsibilities to their families and employers, some of which are in the teaching and medical communities.

The IRFU, fully appreciating the players’ commitments, had, over the past weeks, discussed the implications of the travel guidance with Sport Ireland and the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sports and Media to explore if a derogation on the guidelines was possible, as the players are operating in a highly controlled high performance ‘bubble’. It was confirmed this week that such a derogation from the guidelines could not be granted. The IRFU understood and fully accepts this decision.

IRFU Chief Executive, Philip Browne, said: “We are extremely grateful to the French Federation and their Women’s Team for this superb act of solidarity with the Ireland Women’s Team and IRFU. To experience such generosity of spirit is uplifting and goes to the very heart of what the sport of Rugby, and the Six Nations, is all about.

Presumably the BaaBaas match fee wasn't as big this year as no crowd. In normal times it can be the second biggest match fee in rugby (after an English match fee).

Some no names potentially being dudded out of their biggest pay day yet by their richer team mates. Maybe, dont know the fee, dont know if they still get paid.

@Rapido I thought it said they had to refund 30k tickets. But that must have been to do with covid, not cancel?

Best moment of rugby for 2020

Connor Murray gets a yellow for blatant infringement inside 5 mins

Ref laying down how he wants the match played.

    Well played ref.
