Maybe won't be a loss given that both young hookers at the Canes seem to be going ok, especially Riccitelli who looked pretty good in his debut performance off the bench last week. Still remains to be seen if they can carry on performing at the higher level week in and week out, particularly when they come up against the highly rated/better performed forward packs.

You really can't blame him for looking for what must be better financial rewards offshore when reality indicates that it will be sooner rather than later that he would be usurped by the young chargers currently snapping at his heels.

Matu'u always seems to be injured at the wrong time, so don't feel I get to see him that often. Besides, he can go over there and wreck their players. I spend entire games wincing as NZ players run down his channel.

His lineout throwing was not up to much. And he's often injured. So not really a great loss if we can keep the young guns

There's no way he's going to come back in another two years playing the sort of rugby that will get him into the All Blacks.

They all seem to come back looking to run into contact & playing heads down rugby.

If you watch Luke at Sale he was used over & over as a crash ball runner - with a lot of success. But then he came back & all he seemed to have was the crash ball into contact. Which in NZ rugby is the "well, there's nothing on so I'll do this" option, not the "this is my first option every time" thing it is in a lot of UK sides.

In contrast you had guys like Nonu who certainly could run that ball, but only if the gaps weren't on. Its like 3 years up North they stop seeing space. Part of it might be you run constantly into space in the UK & then get caught the chances of your 9 & your 3 fat slow loosies getting to you in time to recycle are zero. It becomes self fufilling, players run into contact because thats where the support is, and 6's get picked as opensides because a big grunter is more useful over 80 mninutes than a fast link man / poacher, because the game is a bit tighter.

I hate this thread. Each time someone posts I open it with trepidation wondering which player is moving overseas...

If a RWC, the Olympics and the Lions wasn't enough of an incentive for Charles I'm not convinced he leaves £££ in NI to come back to a Super Rugby contract and a possible AB jersey.
