And when I day original I mean the 1998 film.
If you Google Mulan it's quite a legend.
I think I have but I will rewatch. I imagine the live action remake will be a more mature watch than the cartoon original. I would expect for example that the live action remake of Aladdin might draw similar comparisons. But I'd have to watch that too

Funnily enough I think the "live action" remakes of The Lion King and Aladdin were quite true to the original.
Eddie Murphy's Mushu makes the original for me.
"Yo Rocky! Wake Up!"

BTW @voodoo @canefan have you guys watched the original?
It's a staple that we keep going back to.
No sir.
I love the original Aladdin though, my fav animated movie ever. Its not wrong to have a crush on Princess Jasmine still is it?

Every time I see Gerard Butler in a new movie I instantly think bargain bin at Blockbuster.
He’s actually utterly shite and has about as much range as a cork gun.
He’s still living off his performance in 300 which, to be fair, was absolutely farking epic.

Watched Mulan 2020 on Disney+ tonight. I thought it was a very good film. Cinematography showcased NZ, strong acting and good action. 4 warrior women out of 5 sorceresses
We bought that for the kids yesterday. All 3 loved it and the 7yr old lad backed up with a 2nd viewing same day with me and the missus.
Agree was good
Looks like it received critical praise but bombed at the box office. Looks like a casualty of covid19
Jr (who has not yet watched it but had read reviews and opinions) is of the opinion that they deviated from the spirit of the original too much and the target audience (like Jr) was lost as thet were looking for Mushu, and Crikey, and Khan.
So Dishonour! Dishonour on you! Dishonour on your cow!
You and she should really watch it. Some great themes,
daughter and father,
expectations on daughter,
humour and nicely understated romance story during her time in the army, honour, guilt, bravery,
the stuff about Ch'i could have been about the Force,
A woman's place in the world
The action was Creeping Tiger-esque and looked great.Speaking of looking great, Gong Li still looks hawt, even under all that makeup. And loads of other well known Asian stars. You and Jr are missing out
My point was more about how they didn't follow the original, got a bit woke preachy apparently (see @Rancid-Schnitzel and Star Wars) and as such seem to have lost some of the target audience. They're a cynical bunch these post millenials.
Still keen to watch it, eventually, but not if I have to buy Disney.
I wish the only problem with the SW sequels was being woke and preachy. The appalling writing and character development were what killed them. But that’s probably an offshoot of focussing way too much on being woke and not enough on a good story.
I had the original Mulan on DVD and it was one of those films I watched endlessly with my kids. The “I’ll make a man out of you” sequence is really cool. Apparently that particular character (Li Shang) isn’t in the latest version. I wonder why.....

Jackie Brown
Underrated offering from Quentin. Great cast. Bridget Fonda and Pan Grier. Probably the best soundtrack of his movies too.
$50K out of 5 double crosses.

Yeah thought he was pretty good in this eh. It's a good watch, 300 out of 500.It gets kudos for a fantastic torture scene and some cool gadgets but Butler was being annoyingly Bulterish even back then I thought

I think that was the first Butler film I just stopped watching midway through. But IIRC it was more to do with the movie as a whole than him.
I'd still watch him over Clive Owen any day.

I'm amazed Clive had a career.

I'm not so much amazed at the career, but rather that it's a somewhat acclaimed career. Everyone agrees Butler can't act for shit but there's people out there who rate Owen.

Eye of the Beholder
The Good: It stars Ashley Judd.
The Bad: She's supported by these blokes; Ewan McGregor, k.d. Lang and Jason Priestley.
Well played.

@Bones Ha! Saw an old TOTP video recently of Dexeys Midnight Runners singing “Jackie Wilson said”, with a huge background picture of Jocky Wilson the fat darts player
Yeah saw that too, was it on the Vic Reeves thing? Gold.

I think mine would be London has fallen.
That was utter shite.
