Laumape switched from league and made his debut for the Canes in 2016. In 2017 he started for the ABs against the Lions

Not shitting on Laumape but RTS is a far more talented player.

@Duluth I think he'd played union only a few years before tho? Not ten. Still I hope you;re right, more talent for NZR the better!

@nzzp I think his 'ive always dreamed of being an AB' leans that way, so while he has dual eligibility I think there won't be issues 😉

Some gullible folk on NZH FB page

@taniwharugby that page is fucking awesome. The dude who runs it, Alex, is a good dude. Shitposts but also has insight in the men's and women's game. Also a good conversation starter.

          He's signed:

          https://www.allblacks.com/news/new-zealand-rugby-confirms-two-year-deal-with-roger-tuivasa-sheck

the transition is harder than folk think. And it takes a while.

Seems quite a few high end league players get bored with their sport - just a passing observation.

got to be better than Benji 🙂

Yeah I can't see him making the ABs. Two years is just not long enough. He should have gone for Samoa

I can see him making an AB squad. The coaches will probably want to have a look at him in the environment.

@nzzp I still think with Benji it was a case of what might’ve been. I don’t know all the goings on internally and how he got on with coaches etc, but he was shuffled around position wise a bit. There was a game in South Africa that he started and was excellent. The next week he didn’t start! Not saying he would’ve made the ABs, but I think his rugby experience didn’t really give him a chance to excel.

His ABs chances are pretty slim - A. His age and B. The time scale - 2 years to convert to Union? At least SBW had 2 years in France RU before he even came to NZ, even then he was not au fait with the rules at game speed

I'd argue in his entire AB career, he never really was

@Chris-B you heard it here first Ferners, Jordan is the next Christian Cullen

Cullen can’t hit a cricket ball, so Jordan is already better at cricket.

Not a shade on him on a rugby field tho

Cullen was pretty raw when he started out even though he had great speed and that sneaky strength. But he did run rings around some very amateurish defences back in the day. Became a phenomenal player.

              Still early days for Will.

Cullen was certainly lucky that seven Scots legends in a row all forgot how to tackle.

He was pretty ordinary really, give me Ben Blair or Leon MacDonald anyday.

One of my favourite Tests ever. Jocks played out of their skin that day.

@Tim colour me pessimistic, but I really struggle to see a league player coming over quite late into his career, being able to adjust to the midfield in both attack and defence in union, especially considering he only plays fullback in league doesn't he?

                Worked for Henry Paul....

I don't think NZ Rugby will be as dumb as England though.

I'm quietly excited by this news. And another high profile signing for the Blues, backroom changes seem to be working.

Blues Auckland have never had an issue with these - Kirwan got Benji, Umaga got SBW etc.

We have to give him a nod for keeping the culture from repelling players otherwise based in Auckland from playing for the Blues as was the case with Nucifora, Lam and Kirwan.

It's not surprising a married father of two who just played two seasons away from his kids in Auckland due to COVID isn't going to play for the Highlanders.
