Haven't seen it, but by the sounds of the scathing reviews, could have done with a giant edit - get rid of the dream sequences and flashbacks for starters.
 
Like with Man of Steel, for some reason Snyder doesn't seem to get that you can only have so much CGI action before people get bored shitless. You've got to be moved by the characters - love, hate, fear, pissing yourself laughing, whatever, and with a fragmented story or little character development, you aren't.
 
JJ Abrams understood that with The Force Awakens, epic action special effects movie with even more history riding on it, but he nailed it cos he got viewers invested in Han and Leia and the newbies Rey and Finn etc.

One of the dream sequences was what convinced me to go see it - a Batman fight - and I was gutted it was a dream.
 
I don't think Snyder is a good director TBH. 300 was good, and I know that The Watchmen has it's fanbois around here, but that, Sucker Punch, Man of Steel, and this mark him as average. I'm gutted he's directing the Justice League movies and glad he's not directing Suicide Squad.

I thought Watchmen and Sucker Punch were good. In fact, the latter was on last night here and I enjoyed catching a few minutes - though that may have just been Emily Browning's thighs talking :think:
 
I think film critics are, generally, fuck heads. Like food critics, no-one wants to hear them just agree with the director's vision: more clicks in controversy.
 
I'll go see Batsy v Supes as soon as the opportunity presents itself. No expectations.

Its personal taste. You can talk about technical merit and whatnot, but how much someone enjoys a film is purely down to them.
 
I certainly don't avoid a film because the critics said to. Fucking Revenant failed to deliver in any way.

Just watched the Trailer for The Sausage Party (same group of dudes who did Superbad, This is the End etc).
At first I was like what the fuck is this...then a potato got peeled. Hope it's not one of those movies where all the funny bits are in the trailer.

I'm not convinced it was a dream. DC are pushing their multiverse thing pretty hard, I think this is a version of the future where Superman has lost his connection to humanity (cause Lois and probably his Mum are dead) and/or he's being manipulated by Darkseid (those are his parademons you saw in that sequence, as well as the giant Omega symbol on the ground). 
Ties in with the other Flash vision warning him about Lois. 
There is just so much content in this film it's going to take multiple views to get all the Easter eggs. I'm looking forwards to the 30min longer R rated edit on blue ray too. Rumour is we see what happens to Robin and Batgirl, which explains why we have this crazy brutal version of the Batman. 
I got what I wanted from this film, a live action comic book - for better or worse. Fuck the critics, it was fun. 
I would have preferred Bryan Cranston as Lex though.

If it's an older movie I always check rottentomatoes.com and check their rating and the audience rating before even considering watching a movie, I don't trust single critics but generally you can tell if a movie is going to be a total waste of your time. For newer movies I have this thread to rely on..and very surprisingly that hasn't seen me wrong yet!

IMDB ratings are also decent, I use it a lot for the parental ratings that are added by viewers, for the pervy among you (Jegga, M4L) it usually goes as far as telling you exactly where in the movie you might see nekidness....

I try not to read reviews before watching films. One of my mates tries to pick films with a 7.5 above rating on IMDB but that can fuck you in the ass and you'll miss decent films that aren't mainstream enough to get the big numbers and watch some by the numbers stuff.
 
I read reviews afterwards to see what the critics think though.
 
I see the critics are getting attacked by the Twitterati - apparently if you don't think Batman v Superman is great then you're in the pay of Big Marvel.
 
Hooroo: Last Boy Scout is all good, I think it gets better ratings now from critics. The Godfather got slated in its first big review too.
