I've just read a quick article on the rise and fall of Jordan Spieth. I feel like golf is full of these. A guy emerges who looks like the new the guy, and then they slide away. Spieth almost won back to back masters. Won a US open. Won the British Open. And that win was his last tournament win. 2017. He's now 92nd in the world. Dropped off the face of a cliff.

How many other guys have done the same? David Duval is the first one that always springs to mind. Was the main challenger to peak Tiger, won a British Open. And then disappeared. They were 1 and 2 for like a year and a half. Tiger is still #44. Duval is #1847

Even a guy like McIlroy was the anointed one (remember when he moved to Nike and shit?) he's still #6 in the world, but hasn't won a Major since 2015.

Stories like this are why i find Tiger Woods even more remarkable. Think how many next big things have come and gone in the period between his first Major in 97, and his last in frikken 2019!

Looks like Jordan read that same article and it's got him mighty angry!!

    Fuck you, Cliff!

@voodoo its on the internet, if you can't trust that shit, what can you trust?

Ali popping up at about 5th in 2007 was interesting. He was about 65 and already chronically ill. Anyone know who paid him so much as an athlete about then?

Is there another Ali that I don't know about?

Google says he sold most of his image rights in 2006

The retired heavyweight fighter originally known as Cassius Clay will receive $50m (ÂŁ28m) from the New York firm CKX, in return for an 80% stake in his licensing company, Goat - an acronym derived from his self-chosen soubriquet, the Greatest Of All Time. He and his fourth wife, Lonnie Ali, will retain control of the remaining 20%.

Nice work. That would explain it. A lot of money for a bunch of pics but some of them are iconic.

To get back to golf - did anyone see the final round by Fox in Saudi? He was playing with DJ, I think, but I missed it.

@mariner4life I see David Duval in the field getting cut with a +7, but still better than John Daly (and Mickelson).

Two stroke lead for Spieth with a round to play.

@Snowy think they were together in the 3rd round, not the final round.

He ended 6th = and DJ winning.

Berger wins it -18 after 72.
Unless Spieth aces the par 5 18th, but comms don't seem to be entertaining that idea for some strange reason.

@delicatessen Just turned it on to catch Spieth playing the 18th.

I'm a consistent slicer, but a hook into that sea would pretty much be compulsive!!! 🙂

Jordan ends up 3rd equal, which isn't quite the next big thing, but not a car crash.

Tiger Woods in surgery after car crash, say LA County Sheriff's Department

                    https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/golf/56172067

Tiger Woods is in surgery after suffering "multiple leg injuries" in a car crash in Los Angeles, California.

The LA County Sheriff's Department said that it "responded to a single-vehicle rollover" accident in which the "vehicle sustained major damage".

American Woods, 45, had to be "extricated from the wreck" by firefighters and paramedics.

Woods' agent Mark Steinberg said: "He is currently in surgery and we thank you for your privacy and support."

@kiwipie it did, the last one that people went off on, I wasnt bothered by it.

And in other news (I suspect this is mostly American fans, there are some right nutters on the PGA pages hate for de Chambeau, hate for Koepka, for Reed, for the PGA after they pulled an event from Trumps course)

@mariner4life Did you see Dustin Johnson's shot to the 17th that hit the flag and shot sideways into the water - hilarious but must make a player feel like smashing his clubs.

Westwood is really taking the job seriously of taking the "best player never to win a" title from Montgomery - at aged 47. Yet another runner up and another tournamant where just posting a 70 (which would have been his worst round of the week) would have won him the title.

Pretty crazy and from 115th in the world rankings so not fancied in any way - his 6th major and almost 8 years since the last one (and over 17 years since his 1st).

I may have missed it but I can't see any mention from you golf tragics of Mickelson becoming the oldest ever major winner - one months shy of his 51st birthday?

Pretty crazy and from 115th in the world rankings so not fancied in any way - his 6th major and almost 8 years since the last one (and over 17 years since his 1st).

Shades of Jack winning the Masters
