I actually don’t mind the team. Glad they kept the starting loose trio. Midfield makes sense given the ALB injury.

    ABs by 20+.

    1. James Slipper (104 Tests)
    2. Brandon Paenga-Amosa (13 Tests)
    3. Allan Alaalatoa (47 Tests)
    4. Darcy Swain (4 Tests)
    5. Matt Philip (13 Tests)

Right now probably our best scrummaging tight 5.

    1. Lachlan Swinton (2 Tests)
    2. Michael Hooper (c) (109 Tests)
    3. Rob Valetini (8 Tests)

Interesting - Wilson was a bit quiet last week. Obviously trying to bring a bit of an edge with Swinton.

    1. Tate McDermott (6 Tests)
    2. Noah Lolesio (6 Tests)

Essentially: ain't broke, don't fix it.

    1. Matt To’omua (58 Tests)
    2. Hunter Paisami (10 Tests)

Really can't agree with this - while Paisami had some poor moments last week he also had some great ones, and he IS NOT A FUCKING 13. Ikitau should feel hard done by. Paisami marking Ioane is going to give the Kiwi the outside shoulder he needs.

    1. Marika Koroibete (37 Tests)
    2. Andrew Kellaway (3 Tests)
    3. Tom Banks (15 Tests)

Pretty much as expected, as is the bench.

Bell did very well last week. I am surprised by his non selection.

They also took journeyman Matt Todd to the last RWC so I wouldn't be too quick to rule out them taking 3 pretty decent 7's to the next world cup.

I'm not even a Crusaders fan and I think you are being a tad unfair on Todd, he played well for the ABs.

@mariner4life I love how the league default is to defend himself in a boxing match with his head.

Just pointing out that one James Parsons suggested Dalton Papalii could play 6 7 or 8

'Because the All Blacks skipper's in the 7, you can fall and be forgotten': Under-the-radar Blues flanker pushing for a more prominent All Blacks role

'Because the All Blacks skipper's in the 7, you can fall and be forgotten': Under-the-radar Blues flanker pushing for a more prominent All Blacks role

When Richie McCaw wore No 7 for the All Blacks, there were other openside flankers around New Zealand playing out of their skin week-in and week-out who rarely had a chance to pull on the black jersey. History is now repeating itself.

“I’d like to put Dalton Papalii in the conversation for a bench spot because he can cover 6, 7 and 8,” said Parsons, a former All Blacks hooker.

I don’t mind Ardie at 8. I’d prefer BB at 15 but given how much Foster likes DMac, it’s no surprise he is there.

@kiwiinmelb yes he wasn't a huge carrier but worked hard, was a good team player and linked extremely well I thought.

Todd and Holah were just in the wrong era. Like Hewitt, having an all time great ahead of you shouldn't take away from their qualities. Really really good flankers both of them

Happy with minimal changes. Give Mounga and Havili another chance to get some rhythm for the potent outside backs to exploit. But I still want to see Jordie on at 12 in second half running direct and looking for offloads. Only gripe is Ardie starting at 8. Would start him at 7 and have Papalii on the bench. Pleased for Taukeiaho.
Aussie team looks a lot stronger this week and Kerevi still to come back at 13. Think they will challenge AB's to play much better.

Great to see an Aussie team with a guy called Len.

Funny to see people still going on about Jordie covering 12, or playing at 12, even though he's not and it's only going to happen in an emergency - I mean if there was ever a perfect chance for it to happen, it was last week - he got put on the wing. Did he even play 12 for the canes? Give it up....

Someone mentioned earlier about how we lost Kaino and should keep Ioane at 6. When I watch DP, he reminds me heeeeeeaps of Kaino. Don't see why he couldn't be 6...

At first glance, the bench backs are retarded, but not exactly any options I guess.

We have 3 fullbacks, 2 wings and 2 halves in the backline. I don't think they're bad selections for this game, but I think they're a serious reflection on who NZR have invested in for the centres in the last few years. Yes we have Goodhue and ALB and Ennor in the wings, but 3 midfielders is nowhere close to enough depth.

Honestly, who else is up and coming? Quinn Tupaea? So why isn't he getting game time? There's literally no-one else - Aso and Laumape have been pushed overseas, and most of the other prospects are still at least 3 years off test level. Blues only have two true midfielders in their entire squad for goodness sake.

We get annoyed at the trend of playing 10s at 15, but I think the trend of playing outside backs in the midfield is worse tbh. It's no wonder our backline seems so much more clunky than it should - we're using finishers as distributers.
