@canefan Mitchell has been quiet as the chairman compared to Impey. Robinson has been thrown under the bus a little bit and failed miserably.

Plenty of blame to go around. Let's just implicate the whole team. One for not getting the SANZAR partners on the same page, and for failing to communicate what was going on to the media before things happened

Robinson's naivety was apparent as he could have just said that the ABs can't fly to Perth due to the change in WA's controlled border arrangements with NZ which requires 14 days of self-quarantine. Then if Rennie, Marinos and co whinge they should be asking questions of McGowan not NZR.

That's not totally accurate I believe. They wouldn't have had to quarantine for two weeks as long as they arrived today, and they would have been allowed to train in their bubble.

The main issue is that if the remaining RC games don't go ahead, then the ABs won't be able to return home after the Perth test as there are no MIQ rooms available until November. That's how I read it anyway.

Yes agree with that,it would leave the AB’s potentially stuck in Australia with no more games.

Surely Robinson could have explained all this?

Of course he could have,Hes been shit with communication. The reason I can understand why the AB'S didn't go, in the end the right choice. But Robinson has handled it poorly.
Just another NZR episode of stuffing up.

I agree. Right decision, terrible execution

I think most people on here have deep concerns about NZR governance right now. It's amateur hour... the latest bit (if true) is a complete clusterfuck.

Kinda like the Old Blues Administration too - just so shortsighted and happy to go into conflict with people they need to work with

Regardless of the relative strength of the teams, or what anyone may think of Marinos, this is piss-poor from NZ's administration.

I cannot believe that some sports organisations (and I include RA in that) haven't really moved past amateur level on so many things.

I rate this fuckup more fuckuppedly than RWC2003 hosting rights negotiation.

Nah, 2003 was wholly and completely self inflicted by the sound of it. This, on the other hand, at least had some external influence to it (Covid you bastard)

Nope. Which is a problem. Why was this not on the news days ago?

Your as good at Trans Ta$man diplomacy as Robinson himself (and RA).

@act-crusader that is simply sensational bait. Bravo. I assume you’d have Hooper in the B squad. Might quibble over one or two of the props but otherwise not outrageous.

Mark Robinson has played this one out in the media.

Has he? Honestly have pretty much only seen Aussie reaction. I understand that NZR had been in contact with RA throughout the week, and this wss not so much a decision made without consultation, as without agreement.

As for Dave Rennie that seems to his MO. Be angry and act indignant. Reminiscent of his reaction to propgate against the Canes when they went uncontested.

@stargazer just did. Go to https://www.newstalkzb.co.nz/on-demand/week-on-demand/ 12:00 noon etc.

    Makes reasonable points I felt.

Thought Pine was ok interviewing him, although his anti-rugby bias is quite apparent before and after. (He's not a broadcaster I enjoy and tend to find I don't often agree with his opinions.)

I think Marinos and Robinson are just two sides of the same idiotic coin. A pox on both their houses.

Now hopefully, they and Saanzar can stop shitfighting in public and sort out a RC. I don't care where it's played, aside from the NH, as long as it gets played.

I've got sympathy for everyone here.

RA is on the bones of its arse here, and after much wrangling had secured WA agreement to host a Bledisloe at Optus Stadium. Packed house, 60k, a much needed financial boost.

So to have the Kiwis pull out at the last minute would sting, on a few levels.

But the NZRU are only trying to get the best for their players, who are understandably reticent to spend months away from home.

As for the manner of it, well it doesn't reflect well on anyone, does it.

Would be nice to have that 100th test in South Africa but with no crowds anywhere seem to be OK. Just appreciating Springboks playing again is good enough, even on the moon.

We have a lot of UK players, playing there will make it easier to add players to the squad for injuries.

Charles Piutau and Steve Luatua would be quite handy for us.
