@mariner4life I genuinely don't understand people that don't want him in the Wallabies. It's the surest way for Australians to demonstrate to me they know fuck all about the game or are partisan clowns.

all effort, all the time, doing the shit jobs no one else in his team is willing to do. Takes a fucking beating every single game and yet never stops. You would love to play with that guy.

Just run his hip until the inevitable break, and simultaneously hope the opposition fullback can tackle, you can catch the offload, and fall over the line.

Wallabies coach Dave Rennie has made another SOS call by bringing Sean McMahon back into the national set-up nearly four years after his last Test.

A Wallabies spokesperson said McMahon would join the squad on Tuesday after Sunday’s match against the Springboks.

The unsurprising realisation that we have let our development systems die during the last 2 decades.

I am pleased for Thorn and for Queensland. He has an exceptional rugby pedigree and his efforts in coaching young men reveal the same determination, focus and strength he displayed on the field. He offers his time readily to club and junior rugby activities - clinics, addresses, presentations and such, yet amusingly the knowledgeable young rugby fans have the certain understanding that he is barely literate.

Your Quadie's momentary re-emergence as one of the Harmless Wallabies most hilarious comedy acts has revived the angry kiddie fans hatred for Brad Thorn - because Thorn dis-a-spekted the li'l fella and made every other coach also refuse to employ his silky bunny hop and pass-to-Row F skills.

Oh, and Brad has personally blocked his bid for Australian residency or citizenship or something. 😉

Macqueen started in 1997 after Bledisloe, and gave it up in 2001 after Lions, before Bledisloe.
                      1998: 3-0
                      1999: 1-1
                      2000: 1-1
A 5-2 win ratio against the ABs is almost unimaginable.

                      Rennie:
                      2020: 1-2 (1 draw)
                      2021: 0-3
Rennie with the 1-5 reversal. Last year could so easily have been 2-2 bar Hodge's kick.

@nta anybody lamenting the current state of AB rugby should be forced to go back and look at 1998. look at who played. Look at how we lost some of those games. Just awful.

Playing against a couple of pretty handy outfits as well

It’s also a very very scary thought under Rennie’s guidance.

Why do you say that (re: second point)? They've all been tried and found wanting anyway.

The only genuinely good thing would be more competitive SR teams.

@antipodean I think for the sake of rugby in this region we need to see a strong Australian team , they also bat above their station at RWC’s
Skelton and Arnold will give them world class size in the middle row but a whole lot of depth to their stocks but their ace in the pack in my opinion is Dave Rennie .

I agree with your first point we need Australia to not suck. I think they've flattered to deceive at recent RWCs (well maybe not Japan).

European experience and capped players returning to play SR will certainly help, but I've said this before: I think Rennie's suffering from not having the Professor on staff.

tl;dr version: agree that more returning is good.

@antipodean when you consider the issues they have had off the field I suspect much that has flowed to on field ..and we could write a list .
I personally think they are a dark horse for the next RWC .
I don’t read to much into the strength of your super rugby teams as South Africa proved point at the last RWC but if you have 30 or so that can play test rugby and decent coach who can bring them together anything’s possible, plus don’t under estimate Scott Wisemantel who is Rennies attack coach , He has a very sharp mind and was Eddie Jones attack coach for both Japan and England when they beat the springboks in 2015 and the All Blacks in 2019 respectively..

@machpants maybe not right now , but in a RWC year circumstances change and given that he is already in France , I for one would’nt bet against it..

Here we go again: the short term thinking for the national team, and nothing being announced about a development pathway for players and coaches.

Now, the success of the Wallabies is very important. It brings people to the game. A RWC win would be awesome.

But if we don't help build the lower levels, we will be back to where we started in a few years.

@nta that’s a fair point , but I also think it’s a 2 way sword , unlike NZ where Rugby is King , Australia has to battle with 3 other winter codes and having a solid shop window so that next group of young kids do have something to aspire to and seeing a winning international team is so important.
