Scott Barrett and Patty T returning to NZ.

    https://www.allblacks.com/news/young-lock-josh-lord-called-into-the-all-blacks/

20-year-old Lord, together with All Blacks Sam Cane, Samuel Whitelock, Dane Coles and Shannon Frizell, will meet up with the squad in the Northern Hemisphere. Lord comes in, with locks Scott Barrett and Patrick Tuipulotu returning to New Zealand this week for family reasons.

All Blacks Head Coach Ian Foster said: “From a physical point of view, we have come through the Fortinet Rugby Championship really well. Therefore, we’ve decided to add fewer players than first anticipated for the next part of our 12-week Tour. Also having the Bunnings Warehouse NPC continue into November means we are also able to bring over potential replacements, if required.”

With the All Blacks squad unable to return to New Zealand, the squad will relocate from the Gold Coast to the Sunshine Coast tomorrow. The squad will have a week off and a training camp next week before flying out to the USA on Sunday 17 October. The All Blacks play the USA Eagles in Washington DC on Saturday 23 October before Test matches against Wales (Saturday 30 October), Italy (Saturday 6 November), Ireland (Saturday 13 November) and France (Saturday 20 November).

After first making his provincial debut for Taranaki in 2019, Josh Lord was called into the Chiefs wider training squad in 2020 and then the full squad this year. He made his Sky Super Rugby debut against the Crusaders in 2021 and played five matches. Lord has proved himself as a versatile lock and at 2.02m has impressed with his lineout work and with ball in hand. Lord plays both his provincial and Super Rugby alongside current All Blacks lock Tupou Vaa’i. Hailing from the small township of Owhango in the central North Island, Lord attended Hamilton Boys’ High School and first came onto the national radar with the University of Waikato Under 20 side as well as the New Zealand Under 20 team in 2018.

Yeah - I looked at that and instantly thought "bollocks".

106kg is a somewhat small openside flanker in test rugby.

I'm sure Lord is heavier than that now as he has definitely bulked up since leaving school. Even younger than Vaa'i though.

PPP didn't play yesterday for Ta$man so is he injured again?

Strange obviously not in the frame now either.

        Not that I've heard.

Frizell didn't play yesterday either, so I suspect there was a bit of rotation going on. (It seems SF will likely be available for the Shield Challenge).

PPP hasn't really impressed me that much so far in NPC since the resumption. I think Strange has been going better.

commentators must be frantily scribbling down some ziggers like "Lord on high" whenever he take a lineout or the classic "good lord!" if he does anything noticeable at all

Both have been picked with the thought of Whitelock and/or BBBR being liable to breaking next world cup, I reckon

Or if he’s dominating the line outs maybe ‘Lord have mercy”

From memory, Lord didn't stand out in the games he started - one of them he only last 3 minutes before getting injured.

He does look to have a reasonable workrate from the stats I'm seeing - whether or not he has an impact in what he's doing, I can't really assess. But looks to have a higher workrate and be a better jumper than Vaai.

Judging by comments from Foster post the test, they are placing emphasis on set piece abilities. That may be where they see his strengths over others.
They surprised us with the Tupaea selection who turned out to look suited to test rugby. Maybe we need to see some test selections as very different to Super Rugby and that may be a good thing.
It is the Super Rugby style that has developed us into a team that can be shut down by a very good opposition.

@bobily2 Age might be dodgy, but that's a much more realistic weight.

Possible still a bit lighter than reality, because he's supposedly the same height as Sam Whitelock and Sam is a bit of a beanpole lock, but the first listings I see for him are 117 kgs.

You obviously don't read my posts then (though they may of been on another forum0, I a real fan of this kid, have been for a couple of years. I reckon any bugger that's locking at NPC level as an 18yo has a lot of potential, and when he graduated to Super this year, I thought he looked like he was growing as a lock. He still just a skinny bugger, but at 20yo he will fill out a bit.

Can I ask is anyone else wondering about the ScoBar and PT coming back home suddenly?
Sco Bar is hauled off at halftime after a couple of dumb penalties , and then suddenly has to get home to wife?

Can I ask is anyone else wondering about the ScoBar and PT coming back home suddenly?
Sco Bar is hauled off at halftime after a couple of dumb penalties , and then suddenly has to get home to wife?

I don't think his wife can fake a pregnancy.....

It was mentioned weeks ago Scott Barrett was going home after the RC for the arrival of their baby.
