I've seen a few vids on Youtube speculating what is going to happen in terms of old characters and the consensus seems to be that the Emperor will have a smallish part ie Snoke from the last flick and D Vader will have a major role. I for one can picture him slicing up that Asian Samurai looking guy after taunting him about his primitive weapon being no match for the dark side of the force. So it might well give us a "duel" of sorts although I hope they don't make the big fella do lots of ridiculous flips and the like and keep his movements economical so there is at least some continuity towards 'A New Hope" which is set months or mere weeks later depending which geeks you believe.

The real burn would have been that you "find my lack of geekdom disturbing" but anyway......

I'm fairly certain I wookiepedia'd DV and read that he had to change his fighting style to account for his new found lack of mobility after what happened vs Obi Wan the first time but his strength and force abilities were still more than enough to make mincemeat out of anyone. He did seem more mobile in ESB and ROTJ in his fights with Luke so there may be some truth in what you say I will admit......General Grievous was mainly metal and he was heaps more mobile.

DV did get fucked up in "the force unleashed" PlayStation game which is apparently "Canon" ( meaning you play him in the game and he beats DV in a duel and it ties in with the rest of the Star Wars universe ). A movie about that guys antics would be beyond awesome. It doesn't make sense though cos the Emperor clearly tries to make the main guy his apprentice, fails, and then settles for Vader and then goes through the exact same shit years later with Luke. I would have thought DV would have said fuck this and chucked him down the shaft years before......

( puts on geekiest geek hat he can find )

more on him can be read here.

http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Galen_Marek

Other rumours are that the Emperor needs to use bacta tanks to replenish his body which is continually weakened by his very power he wields and partially accounts for his disfigured appearance. For one who was apparently the most powerful Sith in the galaxy he did perish without much of a fight, I mean surely he could have used the force to break his fall, re emerge and fuck up a hurt and damaged Vader ?

See that was the problem with the prequels. In the original series the Jedi (the few we saw) could do really cool shit but nothing ludicrous. Then APM comes out and we get light saber duels a million times better than anything seen in 4-6. Continuity really wasn't Lucas' strong point.

Sure, but I don't think the lightsaber duels themselves relied on massive amounts of CGI.

Some of them did, particularly the ones involving Yoda and death defying flips.

It does make the first duel ever seen on screen between Vader and Obi Wan seem extremely lame in comparison, their feet may as well have been encased in cement.

Yep. These 2 fought the duel of the century that ultimately resulted in Anniken becoming a mechanical freak. When they meet decades later, Vader is as cool as a farking cucumber and almost civil to him. Where was the dark side rage. After 20 odd years he'd want to force crush Obis nuts and carve him up slowly. "Your powers are weak old man" is pretty farking lame.

I think being in the suit for so long definitely numbed the emotions somewhat though. The lameness I was referring to was they went from moving literally hundreds of metres in all directions in their first encounter to pretty much facing eachother in an area the size of a waiting room.

Ewen McGregor could do a cameo in the latest one, even a shot of him gazing across tattooine would be pretty cool.

Anniken was also a massive chopper before he turned into Darth. 20 years to mature and chill is rather reasonable. He became a cool cat over time, completely unlike he used to be

Yeah, but it was still the guy who turned him into a mechanical freak and who he probably blamed for Padme. Even your most chilled pot smoking hippy is likely to flip at the thought of those memories.

The mechanical argument is a bit meh. He has access to the best hardware in the galaxy. If anything it would make him bigger and stronger. Also Obi isn't THAT old and his powers shouldn't be that weak. What was he doing on Tatooine the entire time? Scaring sand people?

DV could still be pretty mobile when he had to be and was freakishly strong through the force and the metal arms and legs. However he lost quite a bit of potential due to the force relying on living matter, of which he lost a lot of.....if anything the prequels proved what a badass Obi Wan actually was in his day. I don't buy Yodas argument that he would have been too weak to face the Emperor.

I always thought the Force was more a power of the mind thing. Despite his missing parts, Vader would still have the same midichlorin count.

Obi Wan is a bit tainted by having been handed his arse twice by Dooku.

Yeah but Dooku was one of the best force users of his era, up with Palpatine, Yodes and Windu. Definitely an underrated fighter in the same way Darth Maul was overrated ( lets not forget Obi Wan was a padawan when they fought ).

Pretty sure I've read that whilst Vader was hugely powerful he never reached his true potential cos of the damage to his human body.

To me that was the biggest fuck up of the prequels (ok, one of many). The Vader v Obi Wan fight in Star Wars was written off as being slow because they were old. And then they went and made them young as fuck in the prequels, meaning they went from mid-20s and 30s to their 60s in 18 years.

Obi Wan woulda been over 40 when he wasted Annekin first time round, Annekin woulda been late 20s so 60 odd vs late 40s is entirely plausible. They were early 20s and about 8 or 9 when they first met. No Jar Jar level fuck ups there.
