MP media release (McClutchie): https://moanapasifika.co.nz/nau-mai-haere-mai-e-hoa/
Correction of earlier post:
The media release about Kepu indeed explicitly includes a contract duration (2 years), but also the media release about Christian Leali'ifano's signing:
He has signed with the club for the 2022 season with the option to extend.

@daffy-jaffy Excellent to see that confirmed.
It's YOUR loss, Hurricanes!
Edited to add that this also seems to confirm that he's only NZ-eligible.

On their instagram page, MP says that the next announcement is a double announcement. They also include two Tongan flag emoji.
@stargazer Loni Uhila??

@mikey07 What about Loni Uhila at LH and Ben Tameifuna at TH? Both are still playing in France though.
@stargazer Uhila is only playing federation 1 rugby for a team called Hyeres

@stargazer it's probably a blessing for McClutchie tbh. He isn't better than Ruben Love from what I've seen so it's probably better for him to start somewhere, than be a reserve somewhere else like the Canes.
I hope he goes well and gets plenty of opportunity for Moana Pasifika.
Obviously I disagree with you about the Ruben Love bit. I think McClutchie's game management is far superior to Love's. Love is still in the early learning stages in that regard. Love is probably slightly better at kicking the ball into touch (exit play). They're both inconsistent at goal kicking.
I agree McClutchie is better off at MP, because he wouldn't get enough game time at the Canes. Not because Love is better but because Love is one of the new coach's pets.
@stargazer Apples and Oranges. From what I’ve seen of Love so far he looks to be a better prospect long term. He’s bigger, he’s better defensively, I think his all round game is better and I think he is the 10 for the future. Love is certainly better if you compare where McClutchie was at the same age.
I think it’s a little over the top saying he’s the coaches pet, but I guess that’s an automatic tag that you Hawkes Bay lot put on Wellington players these days.
Anyway, when they square off against one another we will get the real picture.

@canes4life Personally I'm bloody happy McClutchie got a contract, he deserves one. I also hope Tom Parsons, and Geoff Cridge pick one up as well. Loves a good player no doubt, but I honestly believe the Hurricanes missed a trick in not signing these 3 players.

I know tackle percentages aren't everything, but Love is at 58% tackles completed, and McClutchie is at 83% for the current NPC season.

@billsy111 the Canes should have signed McClutchie, I agree on that. He’s better than both Morgan and Garden-Bachop but to me there is a high chance he would play second fiddle to Love long term, so he’s probably better off signing with M.P. especially if he’s going to be the king pin there.
I raise this question to everyone on this thread, if you had to pick McClutchie or Love as your long term 10 who would you pick? My assumption as to why McClutchie hasn’t cracked a Super Rugby contract with any team in NZ is probably down to ?? around his size and ability to step up to the next level. The good thing now is that McClutchie has a chance to prove his doubters wrong by playing solid rugby for MP, where he may never have got that chance if they didn’t exist.
I wish the lad all the best.

That's classic c4l.
I'd take McClutchie over Love in a heartbeat. Unless I was trying to make my team look rudderless.

I don’t know who either of these guys are but I know a good fern burn where I see one so you get an upvote.

@bones I will be fairly happy to say ‘I told you so’ when Love pulls on the black jersey in the future.
Get used to the name Bonesy, Love has already shown glimpses of brilliance even at the raw age of 20 and is only going to get better.

I'm pretty used to the name Bonesy already.
What I'm not a fan of is watching my team get pumped because the guy supposed to be doing the steering hasn't got his licence yet. OH BUT WOW CHIP KICK TRY WHICH NO ONE IN THE HISTORY OF RUGBY HAS DONE!!!!
Anyway, I'm pretty confident McClutchie will show more than Love in his first year of SR.

I wouldn’t quite go so far but the kid certainly looks like he has something. Just needs to add the other parts and experience.
He is no BB, Carlos, DC or Cruden at the same age.
How are your previous star calls going btw?
