Something from the doctor to make you feelgood
My Dad LOVED these guys…..so as a result Mum and I had to as well. Can’t deny they did some good tunes……I always liked this one, pretty sure this is the song I thrashed when I figured out how to use the record player in the early 80s when we lived in Nelson.

So this popped up as a suggestion when I was “researching” for @Tim s other thread.
Considerably pudgier and more middle aged but then again the song is over 40 years old…..still good fun. The singer fucks up a bit and doesn’t give a fuck
Seeing them 08 December
Squeeze are the support act
Can't wait

Now THAT sounds like a fun gig.
I mean, neither are close to being my favourite bands but I’d still go and no doubt have a rip roaring time. Enjoy !

Hope it is fun.
I have to admit that I was probably being a bit precious when tickets came around for a Madness gig.
I had set myself a process with old bands that I liked to watch some recent youtube clips to see if they would possibly ruin my memories of them.
I had seen Madness on some NYE TV special thing and thought they were pretty horrendous old men hamming it up.so decided not to go to a gig.
What I didn't realise is that they were finding their feet again in that show and subsequent gigs had got a lot better. -

What I didn't realise is that they were finding their feet again in that show and subsequent gigs had got a lot better.Doing this is exactly why I was so 50/50 about Faith No More. Patton just doesn’t sound good anymore and the rest of them look like a bunch of suburban dads……I did get tickets but then COVID made the decision for me.

Right at the arse end of Deep Purple still being good, and this is coming from someone who absolutely loves them. Their releases from 1970 to 1973 were some of the greatest in rock history. This tune ( and album ) were bloody good but by the time of ‘The Battle Rages on” which was released in 1993 they already sounded like a bunch of tired old has beens. They’ve released EIGHT albums since then and I have no desire to listen to any of them ( Richie not being there is a massive factor but having seen Steve Morse live with them he is excellent )
One thing Zep had over Sabbath and Purple ( amongst others ) was knowing when to quit.
I genuinely did not know they were still making music beyond the 70s.
Something from my father's catalogue.

Keep it that way.
Bands should have selectors like sports teams to drop them when they’re not up to it, It would save a lot of embarrassment. In saying that they were still pretty bloody decent in 2006 when I saw them live. Gillan can’t quite hit the high notes but Glover and Paice look like they were having a blast. The latter is surely the most underrated drummer ever. The former realises how much he was in the “right place, right time” and is such an understated bloke for someone who’s band has sold over 100 million albums worldwide.
I did miss Richie though.

I never skip this song when it comes on for purely sentimental reasons.

@antipodean You spelled pervy wrong. Must have been autocorrect I guess.

I save that for the Bangles...

Listening to the just released 'The Comeback Special' by The The. Massive set of live recordings done during Matt Johnson's first gigs in 16 years. If you like The The you'll love having a listen. If not a fan then I leave you with one of the best songs ever recorded.
Edit: Replaced ghastly 80s video with this live clip where you can watch Jools Holland play that amazing piano outro

Every man for himself
Statistically more people survive if they think
Only of themselves
Do not attempt to rescue friends, relatives, loved ones
You have only a few seconds to escape
Use those seconds sensibly or you will inevitably die
Do not panic
Think only of yourself -
Probably a niche post... For those who enjoyed the Mutton Birds back in the day, Facebook has just put a new Don McGlashan single in front of me. A little bit of a nostalgic sound to it, with Kiwi summer lyrics rather than a White Valiant in it.
Hi everyone.
Auckland stores are open! Yesterday Mitre Ten New Lynn's storage aisle was filled with rapturous couples finally buying the bucket that they've been discussing for three months of lockdown.
Outside, Summer turned its dial up to 11. And today we're releasing Go Back In, the second single from Bright November Morning. Check out Kristina Simons's beautiful new lyric video for it attached.
We're also adding a date to the February tour - Friday Feb 11th at Queenstown's Sherwood, one of my favourite venues.
Talk soon,
Don
