Right at the arse end of Deep Purple still being good, and this is coming from someone who absolutely loves them. Their releases from 1970 to 1973 were some of the greatest in rock history. This tune ( and album ) were bloody good but by the time of ‘The Battle Rages on” which was released in 1993 they already sounded like a bunch of tired old has beens. They’ve released EIGHT albums since then and I have no desire to listen to any of them ( Richie not being there is a massive factor but having seen Steve Morse live with them he is excellent )
One thing Zep had over Sabbath and Purple ( amongst others ) was knowing when to quit.
I genuinely did not know they were still making music beyond the 70s.

Keep it that way.
Bands should have selectors like sports teams to drop them when they’re not up to it, It would save a lot of embarrassment. In saying that they were still pretty bloody decent in 2006 when I saw them live. Gillan can’t quite hit the high notes but Glover and Paice look like they were having a blast. The latter is surely the most underrated drummer ever. The former realises how much he was in the “right place, right time” and is such an understated bloke for someone who’s band has sold over 100 million albums worldwide.
I did miss Richie though.

Listening to the just released 'The Comeback Special' by The The. Massive set of live recordings done during Matt Johnson's first gigs in 16 years. If you like The The you'll love having a listen. If not a fan then I leave you with one of the best songs ever recorded.

Auckland stores are open! Yesterday Mitre Ten New Lynn's storage aisle was filled with rapturous couples finally buying the bucket that they've been discussing for three months of lockdown.
Outside, Summer turned its dial up to 11. And today we're releasing Go Back In, the second single from Bright November Morning. Check out Kristina Simons's beautiful new lyric video for it attached.
We're also adding a date to the February tour - Friday Feb 11th at Queenstown's Sherwood, one of my favourite venues.
