<p>Train are absolutely horrific. Another band of the same ilk as them and Hootie and the Blowfish are the Counting Crows, just god awful fucken music from people who found Rage, GnR, Faith no More, Chillis, Nirvana and Stone Temple Pilots a bit aggressive and "rock" like.....the 90s in particular was full of pussy music like that....other names to throw in are the Goo Goo dolls, Hoobastank and of course Nickelback......</p>

<p>This thread irks me, I love music probably more than sport to be honest but when people have lots of links on these threads it takes ages to load so hence I don't usually bother. Also people put things up that may or may not be good but there's such a huge chance they get ignored because of said issues.</p>

<p>Does it need to be separated into genres or is that in the too hard basket ?</p> -

<p>Appetite for Destruction was the best selling debut of all time so obviously had some merits, I still bust it out for a hoon every now and again, Mr Brownstone probably the most underappreciated track on there, awesome listening.</p> -

Funny you should say that. In the mid 90s there was a Led Zep tribute album called "Encomium" that included a version of "hey, hey what can I do" by, yes, Hootie and the Blowfish. Dross.<br><br>
Dread Zeppelin's first album had some interesting versions of Led Zep songs, done in reggae style. Their later albums took the joke too far though, don't bother with them. -

<p>It'll probably come as no surprised to anybody that I regularly listen to the entire GnR original back catalogue and think with probably the exception of My World, all of it is completely fucking awesome.</p>

<p>Lies is split between old-school rock with Axl's voice probably at it's peak, and some acoustic brilliance. Appetite is THE definitive rock album of it's era, and the UYI double album is purely about Slash for me.</p>

<p>Chillis were the the ultimate "I have just got to Uni & want people to think I'm a bit out there and I brought my surfboard with me even tho' I can't surf!" fucking dross. God how many tools sat there in their dorm rooms listening to Under The Bridge with their door open, shirt off, moodily nursing a beer in the hope that hot chick would walk by & they could explain the art of the bass to her or the deep lyrics...</p>

<p>Pretty sure every generation has "that" band, it just goes in rolling 3 or 4 year bursts as new douche bags get to University & do their BSoc/Sci, - Chillis, then Rage, then Offspring etc.... through to Evanescence.</p>

<p>August & Everything After by Counting Crows is literally the ideal album to listen to right through if you have run the bath & got the razor blade but can't quite get in the mood to end it. Its a great album, but if you are in anything other a very upbeat mood it makes falling under the central line look a quick & relatively painless option.</p>

Splendid rant there. I'm not going to disagree with you about the chillis but I never saw that part of their fan base first hand. I saw the younger ones with long shorts and mothers milk t shirts which I'm guessing grew up to be the twats you described . Rage were the same and I've never understood how smashing pumpkins became so big , Billy Corgans voice is awful and if I ever want to hear a whining , nasal stream of consciousness rant I simply pick up the phone and dial my ex wife .<br><br>
The singer from Counting Crows suffers from sort of crippling mental illness which stopped them from really making the most of the success of August and everything after. The way you described the album is bang on, if you were ever standing on the edge of a bridge and couldn't decide whether or not to step off a couple of minutes of round here would send you hurtling into space. -

<p>Uplift Mofo party plan was a goody as were the previous two ( like you I discovered these after their current albums at that point in time ), they were really "raw" and couldn't sound any more different to what they've done lately if they tried.....my favourite tracks off Mothers Milk would be "Taste the Pain" "Stone Cold Bush" ( playing that bassline note for note was a magical moment in a high school band I was in ) "Higher Ground" ( despite it being thrashed to death ) and "Knock me down".....</p>

<p>I was one of those guys at Uni. I started just when One Hot Minute had come out though,which I liked for a bit, but then it fell off the radar, whilst BSSM never has. RHCP was often on play, as was Offspring & Rage. Others would listen to counting crows, but they were never my cup of tea.</p>

<p>Coincidentally i have just started listening to Mothers Milk again recently. My boys love Magic Johnson, and Subway to Venus is fucking awesome funk. Great album. BSSM is excellent, but i haven't like anything since. They should have stayed on the drugs. </p>

<p>I actually like Counting Crows. August & Everythin After is a pretty good album, and Recovering the Satellites has some good songs on it. It's not on a regular rotation, but i break it out every so often. You're right though, not the most uplifting stuff. </p>
