I reading years ago that despite the Lennon/McCartney writing credits they did very little collaboration throughout the band's history. It was an agreement that all songs written by John or Paul would have the duel writing credits.

I got McCartney's Lyrics for Christmas and that came out quite clearly. But there was a fair bit of collaboration in tidying up songs or telling each other what worked or not.

E.g Macca wrote Hey Jude and wanted to ditch the line "The movement you need is on your shoulder.". After playing it to Lennon, he said to leave it in as it was a great line for the song - so it stayed.

There's also a lot of collaboration between them on Get Back: The Beatles. I wonder if the "they didn't collaborate" came from the same myth factory that gave us the they were fighting all the time while doing this recording?

I've watched a few vids of Paul discussing songs on Youtube where he often discusses input from John on his tracks.

In terms of how the songs sounded, they must have all provided input as they were a band first and foremost. McCartney has said his bass lines were heavily influenced by Ringo's input and vice-versa

Think you're right. Came across an interview with Harrison & Ringo in the late '80's where they both said they always remained good mates who enjoyed working together until the end - and still hooked up whenever they could.

Interesting book as I’ve mentioned on here before. I think it’s pretty damn awesome that three of the four toured very recently. I did feel sorry for Bill Ward though, he was an incredible drummer.

This is the original of one of my favourite songs of theirs, it took Jake Holmes years to take any legal action

Yeah, they were brilliant... thought the lead singer was very good on the drums as well.
