I believe they are throwing the gates open to RLA for that game, and hopefully for Dylan Alcott in the Quad final as well.

They are setting out to entertain, in a sport that is supposed to be entertaining. I'd be fine with it if it was a pair of Brits at Wimbledon, or yanks at the US Open too. Or at the Davis Cup (as it used to be played anyway). Tennis needs more heaving, hostile home crowds, not less.Aussie take.

The on-court tension between Venus and Kyrgios, in particular, was noticeable and both had words with each other and the umpire over perceived injustices. Kyrgios also mocked Venus’s at-times wayward ball toss. Venus said on Wednesday that Kyrgios’s supporters messaged him on social media “an extreme amount” but there were also “a lot of messages from other people saying how embarrassed they were with the crowd’s behaviour and they’re sorry, it shouldn’t have been like that”. ... “Between serves [THEY WERE]geeing the crowd up and getting them to cheer at times like that. I don’t think that’s really on. “You know if it’s on the other foot, old mate [KYRGIOS]would have flipped his lid. He already did get mad there by himself. Of course sledging his family isn't OK, but how is that Kyrgios fault? I didn't realise waving his arms between points was code for 'sledge this guy's family'.

Yeah I don't disagree. But I kind of like that. He's unafraid to put himself out there, warts and all. He's a bit dumb, he can be a hothead, and always a few bad serves away from a meltdown.
But I really enjoy watching him, and I want him to win so I can keep watching him. He makes tennis more fun.

Like the original "brat" McEnroe kept his cool when he had to in order to beat Bjorg.

@dogmeat True. He knows that, though. If he knuckled down, worked hard and eliminated the showboat stuff he'd be in the top 10. But he doesn't want to do that for whatever reason. People get quite frustrated with that, but it's ultimately his call. It's an individual sport and he can do what he likes.

Speaking of McEnroe I tend to agree with his comments
McEnroe fully backs Kyrgios’ theory that tennis needs more “personalities”. “You need to have a rooting interest in someone,” he said. “Whether you think he’s the bad guy, some people think Djokovic is Darth Vader. Everyone loves Roger Federer. “It’s not like it is in team sports where you can root for your city or your country, so this idea of expressing yourself and showing personality is very important.” -

Remember how disliked Lleyton was early on? Then everyone grew to love him because he refused to lose, ever. You had to beat the cnt 3 x on every point.
Kyrios on the other hand has quit more points, games and tournaments than I care to remember. Still could be worse I guess, he could be Bernie Tomic.

Probably figures he's worth enough so it isn't about the money.

I don't like the crowd behaviour as they were affecting play in some games. I'd be happy if there are more crowds and more enjoy tennis, I just think knocking on the side of boards and chanting/talking over players isn't on.
The Special K or whatever the cereal killers are called aren't directly responsible for crowds sledging their opponents. But mocking their opponents' serve-gamemanship, I just don't like it. I wouldn't like it at club or Pennant level and I don't need to see it at Pro level."You may think Kyrgios is a knob, I disagree."
In an earlier singles game, (against Medvedev I think?) he told an umpire to shut up and listen to him. At that point, I definitely thought he was a knob.

Bernie Tomic-I just don't like. He comes across as an entitled oaf and gives up if a snowflake caresses his shoelashes, but he has a smart tennis brain-what a waste.

Tomic is a genuine cnut. The difference between him and Kygios to me is off court, where Kyrgios comes across as a pretty good dude generally while Tomic lives on the Goldie, drives a orange lambo and just lurches from one fuck-up to the next.

Not sure how he feels about tennis these days but isn't a lot of Kygios's angst about not liking tennis much, but being so talented he'd be a fool to walk away? I've warmed to him although I'm nowhere near McEnroe reach arounds.
