The cynic in me asks if she was a last-minute addition to catch the BLM zeitgeist.
I don't think that's true at all. They had already swapped out two traditionally white characters for black actors well before the most recent BLM "zeitgeist".

Yeah, but those roles were well-written, well-acted and very much part of the franchise. This one was completely the opposite and stuck out like a sore thumb - which put my cynicism counter to level 11.

@nepia it would also have been pretty tame attempt to make a BLM statement, she doesn’t talk about being black, no monologue about challenges faced etc…she just happens to be black
She could even have been Asian....
On that note (and being a bit more serious) I'm nominating Sanjeev Baskar as the new Q. He'd be a bit like John Cleese, who I though was bloody brilliant.

i could see that, could work well
thats exactly it, she could have, her race had little effect...on anything...so hardly much of a statement about BLM....more just a character you didn't think was well done

I'm still suspicious...

@victor-meldrew always fascinating how people can see the same thing so differently, as I say I got very similar vibes to when we first met craig, reasonably new agent, 00 status was important to them, quite happy to walk head first into any situation
Will concede it was a bit cringy when she gave him back the 007…they’d spent the whole dim showing he didn’t care anymore
I had more trouble with remi maleks bad guy….not really sure why he wanted to kill half the planet, started well with the throw back to the story she told in spectre…but then I kind of lost his motivation
Also, wasn’t the big bad guys base from skyfall on an abandoned island of the coast of Japan?
It is a real abandoned factory city. Hashima Island.

That's not funny, that is accurate (I'm a Weaver fan, what a career she has had).

And she has had Mrs Tishell from Doc Martin as her real-life best friend for 40+ years.....

Power of the Dog
Movie with cattle, horses, cowboys, pianos, beautiful photography and sparse acting. Needed more zombies.
3 Kurasawa long silences out of 5 Clint Eastwood silent stares

True. It's not like you predict Scottish rugby is going to win something every season.
