Polish bitches assemble. Ms 5 starts school next week. What should we expect lol? I know any change in routine will have ripples, but any advice on how it has been navigated in other households would be welcome.
Doesn't help Mr 2 is being weaned against his wishes lol. He is well and truly making his displeasure known... during the day, at 2am, 4am, sometimes we even get a 5am titty tantrum!

Hard to know mate. If she is a daycare baby it will be smooth because they are used to long days. Otherwise wanting to sleep early is a nice benefit. No in class drop offs in NZ primary schools I don't think, or maybe they make an exception for year 1?

Nah you're allowed to go into class to support your child's learning under red, you just can't act as a volunteer unless you're vaxxed, boosted by march. It's not level lockdowns.

Our kids were kindy kids so school was no issue, just the next step

Our school won't allow parents on the grounds as I understand it. Which is great because I prefer to keep the motor running

They don't have the right to stop you, if it is legitimately for your child's education. But goo dexcuse to drop and run!

And the kids don't have time to pretend to lose their shit in front of the teacher

That's a good point, after the intro/onsite days. Drop the kid, and go. Let the teacher deal with the tantrums/tears, if any. Within seconds of parents going they're fine, 99% of the time. Staying around just prolongs it

    Parenting failure...

    Stay till the end ...

So, have brought Miss Boo Jr down to the Sunny Coast to sign up (not quite move in) to her new Uni accommodation.

Got her to drive, me in car with her, Mrs Boo following, as she had never done motorways etc. Did awesome with minimal Dad input.

    Win!

Got to student flat place: privately run shared accommodation, it's not like when I went to uni, it's a bunch of 4 kids in a complex of what I'd call flats. But fuck, right outside her door is the fucking swimming pool ...

    Win!

And she meets one on her flat mates, who she used to play netball against back in the day ...

    Win!

Made up room. Would quite like to live there myself

    Win!

Head off mid arvo to where we had booked for overnight (x2) apartment. Huge fucking apartment, overlooking Cottontree Beach in Maroochydore.

    Fucking huge Win!

Miss Boo Jr exhausted, finds spa bath looking out over beach, and watermelon cruisers (Dad had purchased), with the weather closing in. Sat in bath and enjoyed a drink ...

Meanwhile, as I ensured we were appropriately supplied, Mrs Boo finds Karate Kid on Netflix.

    Win!

And takeaways at the awesome Indian down stairs ...

    Win!

Sleep ... and Mrs Boo and I do brunch from the cafe downstairs... and she finds another movie on Netflix... Absolute Power ... (hold that thought ... )

.. then later MBJ goes meeting with fast food joint that she's been able to transfer employment ...

    Win!

Head home. Set MBJ jobs based on requirements of accommodation complex and fast food employment joint. MBJ joins Mrs Boo and I in awesome apartment living room.

"You should watch this. Awesome movie! 'Absolute Power ... Clint Eastwood! ..."

    "Who's Clint Eastwood?"

    ..

    ...

    Complete loss as a parent...

Many years ago while dating the now Mrs Antipodean, all of her female friends were single. I routinely told them they needed to date men who reminded them of Clint Eastwood.

Can you old farts remember what your first meal as an independent adult was? I bet you it was beer and KFC/fish and chips or spaghetti bolognese/lasagne on the flatmate cooking roster.

    @nepia It was just beer.
It was 3 of us who'd for some reason appeared at Uni halls a day earlier than others, agreed to call a taxi - asked him to take us to a pub.
We got taken to some dodgy pub that might have been a student hang-out about 20 years earlier... sure as hell wasn't any longer. But did $4 jugs, or some shit. And served 3 obviously under-age kids. Maybe 20c pool tables... which was fucking rare even back then.
    Don't remember any food.
Dissipated into 3 very different groups of friends after that 1 night out.

Birds Eye Chicken Pie with mashed potatoes. Was an argument about also having some frozen peas. My flat mate at the time was as mean as all fuck and felt we didn't need the addition of peas because the picture on the pie box had a pea in it.

So I think you mean first meal when moved out of home into a flatting situation, right? As halls of residence don't count.

Mine was a 1 dollar pie from the dairy on the corner of Clyde & Galloway Street in Hamilton. The first meal I think we proper cooked together was a BBQ of some cheap crappy meat (provable crumbed), sausages & some salads / cheese rolls. Remember it well, the start of the evening at least.
