See, like I said. Divisive. Never let the facts get in the way of perception.

Anyway, its' all done now, probably not the thread to derail.

@nzzp Warne said Murali's action was legitimate so who are we to argue.

I've read so many nice columns over the weekend

but i think this paragraph is as good as any for the majority of punters

“Bowling, Shane” can be heard countrywide on a Saturday or Sunday, usually with ironic overtones as some poor b*stard decided to copy Warne 20 years ago and take up the hardest skill in cricket, only to be pumped into the car park on a weekly basis. That same person plays for that very occasional genuine “bowling, Shane”. We all do. Partly because amateur cricketers at one point dreamed of being as good as Warne, but just as much because they want to be considered a decent, fun bloke. It’s was his character that appealed as much as anything.

haha that’s classic. I never tried the Warnie, because I was too busy trying my Hadlee, Malcolm Marshal and Merv Hughes impressions, but anyone that tried it on me my eyes lit up because that thing was going for 6

        Murali’s action was cleared wasn’t it ?

I also never realised he was a Rugby player too.

Having him on the mike for BBL games really showed just how fantastic a thinking he was. He'd often tell the commentators what his plan for the next couple of balls were and then execute it perfectly and get the wicket exactly as predicted. Aussie probably missed a trick by never making him captain.

But the memory that I'll remember best is rigor catching him on 99 off a vettori no ball than wasn't called. He was a guy you loved to hate and see fail because he was so damn good and it happened so rarely.

Murali was better than him on the subcontinent but anywhere else is the world Warne was the goat. He's probably the second name on the all time teamsheet behind Bradman.

I had a Sri Lankan mate as a kid who said he found the move to NZ easier than he thought as cricket and rugby were both the big sports for kids in each country and he played both.

I'm not sure if rugby is still popular in Sri Lanka but he probably knew the name of more ABs at the time (the 80s) than I did.

Well yeah cos Murali played for Team Rugby in the Black Clash so he must have been an All Black without me realising it.

Rodney So'oialo coaches a school rugby team in Sri Lanka and he said the fans there are more passionate than NZ fans, so I'm guessing it's still popular.

                        What a dick.

Cricket is one of those games where you can delve enough and pick apart anyone’s record to suit an argument. Warnies achievements as a player speak for themselves….but no matter who the player is there will always be the train of thought they didn’t do well vs x, or overseas or whatever.

You’d expect that sort of chat from rabid uneducated bobs and vagene fuck you bloody type munter Indian fans but not from one of their all time greats ( lets not forget what an amazing opener Gavaskar was )

                        Poor form.

In saying that I’ve had a look at Sunils stats and he only averaged 38.20 against England vs a career average over 50. Based on that he sucked as a player.

the most laughable part of Sunil's shit take is

during Warnies career the Aussies won at about twice the rate the Indians did. They were barely rivals except at home on doctored wickets

                          Indian cricketers and fans, seriously

65.45 against the West Indies when they were at the best though !!!

Ok, say what you like about Sunil being a bit of a dick but the guy sure could play with the absolute best of them.

Even more so when you consider Indian first class cricket wouldn’t exactly be ideal preparation for facing Roberts, Holding, Garner, Croft, Marshall etc.

Had 6 not out innings (4 in WI) which is amazing for an opener, and probably shows the rest of the team did NOT enjoy West Indian bowling nearly as much as he did.

Had 6 not out innings (4 in WI) which is amazing for an opener, and probably shows the rest of the team did NOT enjoy West Indian bowling nearly as much as he did.

Cherry picking stats to make him look bad.

I’m disgusted you’re sinking to his level.

OK: dick comments from a guy who did well against the West Indies.

the most laughable part of Sunil's shit take is

during Warnies career the Aussies won at about twice the rate the Indians did. They were barely rivals except at home on doctored wickets

                                      Indian cricketers and fans, seriously

But Warnie didn't get many five fors, so he's shit. Ignoring that he bowled with McGrath, etc.

Joel Garner got seven in 58 tests…..outwardly that looks barely better than a bog standard Black Caps seamer of the 90s ( Danny Morrison as one example got 10 in 48 ) but he averaged 20 so I’m assuming there was a shit load of 2-40 and 3-60 performances and picking up whoever Roberts, Holding, Croft and Marshall didn’t get first.

Watching a few highlights there. I’d forgotten how warne absolutely owned Daryll cullinan.
